New 466 owner
Just picked up a 466 over the weekend. Works fine, but the only problem was the Var knob on CH 2 is broken. Opened it up and saw it was the coupler that connects the two shafts that's broken. Is there a source for the couplers? I might just leave it alone as it looks like a real pain to get down to the Ch 2 stuff.
Thanks, -d |

开云体育Those fragile plastic flex connectors are impossible to find
as far as I know, but I question whether a flex coupler is even needed there.
The VAR shaft from the knob back to that flex connector?is a piece of 1/8"
fiberglass rod which I imagine takes care of the insulation out to the knob, so
maybe a normal aluminum connector would be just fine. The fiberglass
rod?should take care of any misalignment too.
The last 1/8" shaft connectors I bought were from Veronia
Northern but I'm sure you can get them from others.
Part number 376-0029-00 on this page:
These are those connectors with two set screws, that look like
a piece of thick wall aluminum tubing.

I often use silicon fuel tubings as used for miniature (1:8) petrol racing cars. Make sure the inner diameter is small enough to give a tight fit and use length of 1 - 1.5", so it won't slip. Wall thickness is often .1", which is a good thing.

Alternatively, many 7000-series plug-in modules contain the same couplers and parts units can be had for pennies. Raymond --- In TekScopes@..., "Tom Jobe" <tomjobe@...> wrote:

开云体育I've also been known to replace the
fiberglass with a normal grocery-store style wooden skewer. Then
ones I have are exactly the same size.

With a bit of luck, might even be able to do it a part gripper and not need tearing down down the scope. Now to find a cover... -d ------------------------------------ Yahoo! 开云体育Because I needed one of those 1/8" plastic flex joints
recently and did not have one, I extended an .050" hex wrench today?and
changed those couplers on a 465. I?replaced the two flex joints with two of
those 1/8" aluminum couplers from Veronia Northern and it all worked
perfectly.
You need to remove the bandwidth shaft and a couple of other
small bits?to get good access but it was just a few minute job once the hex
wrench was lengthened.

PS The shaft length on the VAR pot is only .400" or so, and it
is fairly stiff to rotate.

开云体育Put a drop of oil on the shaft near where it enters the pot. I use PB
Blaster penetrate oil. In 15 minutes, the thing will be like new.

开云体育Thanks Tom,
Your suggestion about applying some oil worked perfectly on
the vertical VAR pots of this 465!
