John,
I'm moving this to the TekScopes Yahoo group.
In answer to your question, no, I have not done more than look
briefly at the ops manual. That is why I wrote that I may not know
how to make it work yet. I downloaded a PDF of the operator's manual
yesterday and will hopefully get a chance to play with the 'scope
tonight. The display seems to work just fine, and I have loaded it
with a vertical amp and time base and I am able to display signals
from a function generator, so it is most likely me and not the
'scope that is not working correctly. The 'scope came with a 7B87
that has a coax terminated in a BNC connector coming out of the
plug-in. I haven't looked to see what circuit node is being brought
out by the coax. I plan to put a couple of 7A18s that I have in it,
along with 7B87s (I have two, now) and see what's what. I did notice
in the Tek catalog that the 7B87 is required if one wants to use the
pre-trigger feature. Eventually I'll get a pair of 7A24s for use in
my 7000-series 'scopes.
The 'scope is in very good cosmetic condition, so it does not appear
to have been abused. For $225, I couldn't resist buying it, even if
it needs some work, particularly as it is *supposed* to work.
I have PDFs of both the user and service manual, and I have an
original of the service manual. I was pretty amused to see how big
the service manual is (I thought the package contained a different
instrument that I had purchased until I unpacked it and saw this
huge and heavy manual). I need to buy an original Operator's
Instruction Manual.

Have you read the manual? Somehow I suspect not! If it
prints text on the
screen, odds are it's OK.

For full functionality, you need a 7B87 and one or more
7Axx Vertical
plug-ins. A 7B92A will work, but the A/DS functions will
be limited.
Also, to use the scope's smart functions, you need the
keyboard (or
operate it through the interface).
You really need at very least the User Manual. The4
Service manual is huge
and you probably do not need that.
