7854 ROMs

Hello all (and Ha Happy New Year)

I am looking for the images of the version -02 of the 7854 scope. All I could find are either the -00 or the old ones from Pentti. Anybody have them?
I was able to read the FPLAs (82S107 ver -00 and -02), but the ROMs themselfs are bad...

Best regards,

Bogdan

My 7854 was working last I checked. Probably still is even though I may not be getting
back to using it for a couple more months...

Is there a quick indication of which version they have?
I could warm it up and see! (Then back to work on less fun tasks, dang...)

Hi John,

This is a screenshot of the ID on ver -02 (when working...). I do not know if it is any between this and the vessions of the ROMs.

The other way (best) is to open up the right side and remove the ROM board and it should be on the labels on the PROMs. The FPLA (U120) and the patch ROMs should have the same vesion. It may be possible that the 4 masked ROMs to have a different version than the patch EPROMs.

Best regards,

Bogdan

Sorry, I forgot to put the link to the pic!

A picture of the memory board(s) in you 7854 would help.

Here are pictures of my ID screen and memory board (single) in my
7854:

I have not yet figured out how many different hardware versions of the
7854 there are but mine lacks the FPLAs and uses a single memory board
with two 6264 SRAMs and two 27128 OTP EPROMs.

Here is mine:

Wow! Interesting! As far as I could see your postings about it, it seems that there is no docs about it. Nice never the less.

I actually have documentation that covers the 7854 version I have
courtesy of Dave over at ArtekManuals but it helps to see a picture of
the board. The scanned manual I have is not the clearest.

Before I picked up a 7854, I researched the MOSTEK ROM problem and I
was all prepared to convert one over to modern EPROMs except when I
finally picked up a 7854, it did not match anything I had studied.

It looks to me like there are five different firmware versions of the
early design up to serial number B099999 including three different
mask ROM sets and one later hardware version for serial number B100000
and above which is the one I ended up with.

B000000 to B099999
10 x 2114 SRAMs FPLA 4 x 8Kx8 mask ROM 2 x 2Kx8 EPROM

B100000 and above
2 x 8Kx8 SRAMs 2 x 16Kx8 EPROMs

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to take a peek at the board schematics, layout and parts? Just to see how they implemented it.

I will still be needing the -02 ver. set of images, if anyone has them.

Bogdan

Here are cleaned up images of just the layout and schematic of the
newer A28 board which contains both SRAM and EPROM here:

I notice now that there is no interlock between the battery backup
supply and the SRAM control lines so the SRAM contents should be
subject to corruption if power is lost at just the wrong time.

To all interested, the images made by Pentti (downloaded from Bruce)are ver. -02. Maybe the name of the archive file can be modified accordingly?

Just got to doing so this morning. The file name now contains 'R02.'

Happy tweaking.
