AARGHH, Isn't it typical.

Tomas

Hi group.
Got my 7854 yeasterday, and guess what the f...g transportation company did.
The back of the scope is smashed, with the sheet of metal with the Fan
output and the connectors completly pressed to the main chassis.
It will need quite a lot of force to bend this.
Now, what is broken, well the metal partsa can be re-bent back to proper
shape.
I cant see any damage to the electronics.
The scope starts up, and I finally managed to get a trace (need to read the
OM thoroughly, it is a complicated beast, as it seems.)
BUT the fan-blades are completly crushed, so either I need to get hold of
new fanblades, or, do some surgery and replace the existing fan with a
computertype of fan. That however will force me to create some sort of new
fan-speed/temperature controller.
Thinking of using a controller designed for computers.
Is this doable, and how large needs the fan to be (cfm or m3/h).
I vagely remember seeing something about this somewhere on the net.

With best regards

As I recall from reading up on this, the fan is not temperature controlled but a burshless DC design running at a constant RPM. I could be mistaken, but I don't remember anything in the manual discussing temperature control.
I think Walter at Sphere might have one, but shipping to the EU might be pricey. I was fortunate in that while my 7854 had been dropped, I knew this ahead of time and after reforming the rear panel, the fan works properly.
