2465B restoration, what manual to use?
Hello,
I am expecting a 2465B I bought from eBay somewhere next week, sold as "as is", "not working", "for parts". It was shown with 3 traces and a sinus, so I suppose at least the important basics are working. (for now...) In the description it said the intensity would fade after a few minutes of operation, also in the picture the "var" knob in the middle of the timebase is missing/broken off. In preparation I am downloading manuals, but here I have my first question: The Service Manual I have (Service Manual Tektronix 2465B & 2467B Oscilloscopes 070-6863-01 ) differentiate between Beaverton SN's below B050000 and SN's B050000 and up, and I read the Heerenveen numbers all start with H7xxxxx. The one I have coming is a Dutch (Heerenveen) build with SN H706019, can anybody help me selecting the right Service Manual for this scope please? Did Tektronix start remote building after B050000, so all the H7xxxxx numbers are considered newer than B050000, or should I read it as Heerenveen xxx6019, so consider it being an older machine? Can not wait to get my hands on this one. Regards and thanks, Satbeginner (Leo) |
Hi Manuel,
It's a long time ago, as far as I remember the problems that one had were quite typical for the 246x series. (I know now) A5 capacitor leakage, reference voltages wrong, DA converters in the "fly by wire" controls, sample & hold circuits not all working, etc. I now have several pdf service manuals I found online, and an original printed copy 070-6863-00. That scope I managed to repair while not needing the exact manual. I never found which version actually is for the Heerenveen devices. Stay safe, Leo |
Hi Leo,
Indeed with Heerenveen, Guernsey and Japanese production there is no comparison listing as far as I know. Board Numbers (e.g. 671-0965-05: A5 Controller Board) are more practical. With these you can look for relevant Component Values and Ratings in the Service Manuals. By the way I repaired some time ago a 2445B with H706020 (nearly yours) as SN. I think 1991 production (Production Codes on Components). In addtion: the Electric Diagram of the new (SMD) A5 Board is only applicable on the 671-0965-00 Version of this Board. The aforementioned 2445B had missing traces and pads on some Logic IC's. To replace the IC's I had to compare it with another -05 Version of the A5 Controller Board. The Electric Diagram out of the Service Manual did not work. This different A5 Electric Diagram between Board Versions is mentioned before on this Forum. Succes, Egge Siert. |
Dear Leo,
bonjour, bravo pour le achat ! I have had 2465, 2465A and 2467B back to early 1990s. great scopes with many interesting options, most need PSU recapping and in B version A5 SMD CAP proceedure. After a cal tey can run for many years. Today, I have 5 on my bench one still needs CTT/WR opt debugging. 1/ beware of ebay seller with handle same as this model number! 2/ Well worth to get the exact rev and SN series service manual. Tekwiki and BAMA archive has most versions in pdf Artech is selling printed reproductions, not cheap but excellent quality, also perhaps Qservice in Greece. One of them may have the manual you need 3/ Eevblog.com has many 246xB threads but the teardown 50-100 pages) details the A5 SMD cap process and faults. 4/ Dallas Semi NVRAM DS1225 (?) will have bad Li cell, needs very careful removal, add 28 pin low profile machine pin socket and get new Maxim part, then either copy old to new WITH EEPROM programmer, or do a full CAL as per manual. 5/ Walter at Sphere in Canada has many TEK parts especially knobs. Bon courage Jon |
Good morning Egge,
I managed to repair that 2465B a long time ago, and it is sitting in front of, so whenever I need a scope I use that one :-) I now have a TM503 with the three most important units to calibrate these scopes, a TG501, a PG506 and a SG503. In terms of age of the Heerenveen scope: the IC's mostly have date codes around 9013, so I expect the scope to be mid/end 1990. In another thread (silent for months now) I am working on the repair of a 246x LVPS, but after some time I got distracted by a few Sony S7700 CD/DVD players, especially for the high end Audio CD part. They both work now, so maybe I will build a small tube/valve? amplifier for one of them. With respect to the LVPS, I need to build some proper dummy loads to test the boards separately. Maybe I can get myself to go on with that one. Stay safe, Leo |
There are four caps on the 'B' A5 board that leak.
