c-clip pliers
I'm looking for a good tool to remove the c-clip from the retention shaft from letter-series plugins.
For example I can't tell if the needle nose is small enough to get into the tiny c-clip holes. I bought a tool but indeed the pins don't fit into the holes, and in any case, the jaws don't close small enough to even hook into both holes. What do you use? |
Awhile back, I bought a set of circlip pliers made by Vise-Grip which came with several different sized tips. I think I bought them from Home Depot, but I'm not sure.

Here is a link to the Irwin website that shows them: They come with four tips, three of which have the same diameter pins but at different angles. The fourth tip set has smaller diameter tips. I saw a webpage at Wal-Mart that shows these, and you can probably find them at your local hardware store or building center. They've served me just fine; I don't recall not being able to remove a circlip since I purchased the pliers. DaveD On 3/31/2018 11:42 AM, snapdiode via Groups.Io wrote:

Funny, last night i needed to remove c-clips from a hp331a to lube the gear shafts. I found the same thing,my pliers were too big. I ended up using 2 picks from a pick and hook set. |
Why are my posts coming through twice? Does anyone know? This seems to have started happening recently although I have changed nothing wrt my email client set-up.

Allow me to suggest www.mcmaster.com<> (McMaster Carr). They offer a variety of sizes under ¡°snap ring pliers¡± and ¡°fixed tip retaining ring pliers¡± Additionally Amazon offers a 4 piece mini snap ring pliers set for about $9.00. Seller: JR Quality Tools (no affiliation) Looking through Amazon, there are numerous snap ring pliers and sets. Good shopping! Interestingly, I needed C-clip pliars, too, to remove the armature from the fan motor in my 453... bought a Craftsman that had a bag of different size pins. Worked a charm.

When you reply to the groups from your email provider for instance yahoo.com, rather than at the groups.io website, Yahoo (or whatever you use) records the message you sent, but groups.io also sends you the message you just sent as if someone else had posted it. If you look at the two emails, you'll notice one says sent by you, and the other one came from groups.io.

People who do post from the groups.io website rather than their email address might prefer their posts to be sent to their email address, so there is some reasoning for this. However it's a pain for the users who want to use groups.io the same way they used the Yahoo group. Groups.io errs on the side of having a redudant copy rather than potentially having missing post records. If you want to stop it you can click the link at the bottom of the other person's post that says "view/reply online". This will take you right to a page on groups.io where you can reply (you might have to sign in if you don't have the site set to recognize you automatically). I don't know of a way get around the duplication issue when sending posts using email. I use the Thunderbird email client under windows.? I only see the email bounced back from groups.io in my Inbox. There is a copy of my original message in the Sent items box.? There must be another reason only some people are having this issue.

That also fails to explain why I got three copies of a single message that I posted.

The internal/external snap ring pliers I use for automotive & all purpose situations are Crescent brand, and they've not failed me to date. They came with an assortment of hardened steel tips of various sizes, including 90 degree ones. They've served me much, much better than ones with fixed tips, of which I've broken several. You can adjust the reach of the tips by loosening the set screw and sliding the tips out. Those things have saved me in numerous situations where I needed to reach into a bearing assembly to remove the snap ring. IIRC, they were about 30 USD at Lowe's, but well worth the money. I imagine the McMaster-Carr, Irwin, and Craftsman ones are very similar.
They're also my go-to tool for removing/installing 10 turn dials. Let me know if my posts are coming thru twice to anyone's email client. I always use the Groups.io interface to post. Brian |
