Light filters and Implosion shields info needed
For light filters, you might look for information on them in the context of
optical filters used with cameras. For Tektronix implosion shields, I would think that the primary characteristics would be the same as the basic material (don't know which, exactly; perhaps various different types of plastic?) and looking at the specs for those would be useful. ------------------------ Dave (Nick) Daniel KC0WJN ------------------------ On Thu, Nov 21, 2024 at 18:35 jeff_a_bowman@... via groups.io <jeff_a_bowman@...> wrote: Does any one or any place have comprehensive information on these two |

Sadly I don't have any 7000s to measure the thickness. A laser cutter and some acrylic would make near-perfect replicas. |
I made one from a piece of blue acrylic I had on hand. It was either 1/16" or 1/8" thick. I don't remember but I think it was 1/16" Quite easy to make with a table saw and a sharp carbide blade.

I made it just for the diffusion and to match my other scopes. Hopefully I'll never have to depend on an actual implosion shield.

Use polycarbonate not acrylic ...

I have used lexan sheets that I bought at a lowes store which is .093.
A laser cutter was used to cut to the dimensions that match the Tek originals. After cleaning the lexan, I laminated theater lighting gels to the plastic using a clear glue. It works nicely. The only real difference is that the Tek original has little tits on the CRT side to provide a little air space between the plastic and the CRT. I also used some .080 plexiglass but I was unable to find more without ordering a 2 x 3 foot sheet Things to know: The Tek shield is .078 Gam color 790 and 785 are close matches for the Tek blue. Roscoe 63 is almost a perfect match for the Tek blue. |
Dave, which model of laser cutter are you referring to? I plan to get one in the next year or so, and am starting to shop around.

??? Ideally, I'd like it to be able to handle metal (at least aluminum) as well as lighter stuff. ??? Thanks. On 24-Nov-24 07:03, David Harrison via groups.io wrote:

David makes a good observation about the air space created by the bumps on the CRT side of the shield. These bumps prevent Newton rings, an optical interference pattern. When two reflective surfaces touch in one or more points, but not all points, concentric rings appear surrounding the place where they touch. The ease in detecting the rings depends upon the wavelengths of light present. When a filter is used, it is much easier to see the rings.

I wonder if there are Maker spaces that have these?

I think I uploaded a picture of the different blue filters. Not sure.
