Re: 2246 Mod A - Is it OK to replace just one SMPS switching transistor?
Hi Priya, Do your TIP41C's have heat sinks on them? If so, do the heat sinks have some thermal paste between the heat sinks and the TIP41C's? Some of the early 224x's did not have heat sinks, and

Re: 7587 Nuvistor Tetrode Substitutions in the Tektronix 184 Time-Mark Generator
The heaters are always on though so I am not sure how much difference having the tubes in cutoff most of the time would make. I have a full set of characteristic curves which show just above 20mA at

Re: 2246 Mod A - Is it OK to replace just one SMPS switching transistor?
Replaced both transistors and had it running all afternoon with the cooling fan as a load - internal floating voltage is steady at 44.2V. Next to validate that there are no shorts in the main board

Re: 7587 Nuvistor Tetrode Substitutions in the Tektronix 184 Time-Mark Generator
Last time the subject of Nuvistor replacement with JFETs came up I searched the Supertex page for the depletion mode MOSFETs they make and did not find anything. I see now though that they are still

Re: Tek Probes
The Lecroy/PMK probes are just cat 1, with pollution degree 1, while the Tek has cat 2 I believe. I'm measuring on points that have much less insulation than the probe, in low energy circuits, so that

Re: Tek 154-0812-00 Storage CRT
If you get anyway near Belair, give me a yell at 443-250-6381. I have some old neon sign transformers that may do just right. We could dummy it up in the garage and see if the tab can be deformed. Tom

Re: 7587 Nuvistor Tetrode Substitutions in the Tektronix 184 Time-Mark Generator
You may want to try swapping tubes from the other spots too, although it seems they're all biased for the same operating conditions, so should wear at the same rate - but if they are only on when

Re: 7854 ROMs
A picture of the memory board(s) in you 7854 would help. Here are pictures of my ID screen and memory board (single) in my 7854: http://www.banishedsouls.org/c2df3757f1/7854/7854%20-%20ID.jpg

Sounds fairly close in width to mine, gap-wise. Bummer. I live about 40 minutes away from Bal'mur, in southern MD. ;-) Mark

Re: Troubleshooting 7603 High Voltage board
If your 7603 is good otherwise, HV transformers are available, as Ebay 271043134636. (no connection to me). I got one and will sometime try it. Bob

Same problem that I have. I suspect a short to ground (or to the HV coil)on the LV side of the transformer as the measured resistance between the two coils is only about 5.5 KOhms. Will have to keep

You might check with Tucker Electronics in Garland Texas, they had some Tek CRT's for sale a while back for pretty reasonable prices! Don't remember which ones, but he had several.
