I think that the 74LS387was used to store phone numbers in some mid '70s phone dialers for security systems. I'm not sure, because I haven't seen one in 45 years.

The device ID in DEC's handbook is a 74LS367, not '387. Difficult to read in the scan though. It matches the '367's function and pinout. The '387 could be something like MMI's 6300/01 1K x 1 bit

Firstly, I appreciate the comments immensely. I had been using the rear BNC A-Gate signal as sync for my bench rig while observing other waveforms earlier in the repair so I am familiar with those.
