Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Candles of the Regency era were of variable composition, depending on what you were willing to spend. Faraday used whatever was handy to get the job done. He didn¡¯t need to immerse his coils

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Tom, Sealing wax, according to wikipedia, can contain beeswax. I'm a little surprised that candle wax would be used to try to hold a transformer together, my impression of it is that it is both

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Faraday himself was one of the first, if not the first, to use beeswax in a coil and transformer. I¡¯ll have to look that up again to confirm the details but in his case I believe it was just a

Re: 2235 AN/USM-488 power supply low voltages
So I had one of those is stock. I installed and I still have low voltages across power supply and adjusting R938 has no affect on the voltages. I checked (R937/938/939, VR943 ) Vr 943 was bad, but has

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Oddly, the wikipedia entry does not list any use for beeswax in electronics, either current or historical, similarly the electrical properties of beeswax are not discussed. I'm very curious how

Re: Restoring CRT emission?
As I understand things, if the CRT is gas free, rejuvenation will last a very long time... but if there is gas, the cathode can quickly crust over again, and you will be back where you started...

Restoring CRT emission?
One of my 561's has a severely double-peaking CRT and it's not that bright. Voltages are in spec. It's probably not worth locating and buying a new CRT (especially if the USPS is going to handle the

Harvey, thanks for the explainer, between that and the Theory of Operation section I should be able to figure out what's going on in the -15 V regulator. I went back to the start, found an appropriate

This afternoon I was busy tweaking the trigger circuit, especially the 10 ma leaded tunnel diode I'd tacked in place of the defective D42 trigger regenerator. Part of the problem was excessive lead

Hi, Yeah, it looks like you're correct there were brown epoxy impregnated transformers in the 561B series. The manual I have (from Shannon Hill's collection) lists 3 different revisions of the
