Re: TM50X DC ripple?
You may have missed the ripple specs, but for any power supply, especially when we're looking at your results, suggests that the ripple on the TM506 is excessive.? A bit of logic suggests that the

Re: An informative web site for test equipment repairs
I had a quick look and may be some interesting stuff there for someone. However he just spent too much verbiage on berating Tektronix. People like that piss me off. I always wonder what they

Re: TM50X DC ripple?
In going through the vintageTEK Museum's TM500 power modules, the most common problem is filter capacitors, which produces excess ripple. The supplies should have less than a volt of ripple with a 1

Re: 7854 revived with a new CRT - how to correctly calibrate Z circuit (was: #157693 - /g/TekScopes/message/157693)
"baseline" is the bottom portion of the waveform. The service manual is right, but the confusion may have come from the labels on the A21 PCB: there are TWO trimpots labeled "OUTPUT LEVEL". One is in

Re: 465 - Successfully Replaced HV multiplier
The HV oscillator is fed from the unregulated 15 supply so if you start out with low line voltage, the oscillator will be starved of its supply. Since it is a regulated supply and hence a constant

User Experience of Sampling Scopes
I've spent a few fruitless hours looking for videos of people actually using Tek sampling scopes (e.g. a 7000-series with the 7S11/7T11 plugins) just to see what it's like to use them. Is the user

Re: 465 - Successfully Replaced HV multiplier
Jeff, Correct, the power supplies in the 455 / 465 / 475 and many others are linear, so they are OK to start on variac. You are 100% right about SMPS, like the 485 and other more modern scopes, should

Re: 465 - Successfully Replaced HV multiplier
Barry, I would tend to agree with you. The HV Multiplier in the 465/475 and 455/465M are just failure prone parts. I have had them die right in front of me after just a few minutes of operation. --

I can't see any sign of a set screw. Unless it is hidden under the mounting nut. Not going to be fun to get that connector out.
