The 1502 and 1503 Metallic Cable Testers (not the "B" and "C" versions) use a tunnel diode as a pulse generator and another for jitter reduction.

I've found a selected TD3A 4.7ma Tunnel diode in the 3T4 programmable sampling sweep plug-in unit.
Anyway, it seems to be TD's in 3B3, 3B1 and 3B4 time base.
for the 3B3 : 152-081 is TD2
