Thanks for your ideas.? I think #2 might be the best option.? That way I don't need to do any welding on the part that is on the existing stick in the airplane.? I could make that up at home then file the "welds" to fit.? ?I am going to see if I have a piece of 5/8 tubing that I could weld in there like you mentioned.

The other option is that I am going to go to the aviation department at Menards and see if I can find a piece of aluminum tubing that "just happens to be the right size of ID to slip over both the removable part and the part that is on the existing stick.? Doubtful but maybe if I search in the area for screen door hardware or some other department at Menards,? I might accidentally find a piece.? This would not be as "pretty" as using an interior dowel or piece like your option #2 but might be easier if I find one.
