I'm in the process of buying the Schultz tailwind that has been on Barnstormers. I just got a quote for the insurance. Aside from it costing a lot more than I expected, they are requiring a one hour?checkout in make and model. Has anyone else encountered this issue before? The airplane is being sold by the son of the now deceased builder, but the son, although a pilot, has no taildragger experience and I don't believe he is an instructor. I am an instructor and I have probably 6 or 7000 hours of tailwheel?time. I just don't have any in a tailwind. Do many people just self insure these days? It seems that USAIG is not making it easy for us who fly little airplanes.
