Don¡¯t some CSC locations include an extra line or two of information if they ¡°subscribe¡± or donate to CSC?

No worries John. I have no plans to go aloft without you! Plus, I think introductions and club business will precede telescope removal planning. : )

Our dynamic presidential duo has put together a preliminary agenda for the upcoming meeting, but they ask that if you have additional agenda items, you let them know soon. They will be sending out the agenda next week as we get closer to the Nov. meeting date.??

FYI: One of the agenda items for this meeting will be to tour the 20-inch telescope area and discuss what is to be done with the old 'scope and mount. Does the Club want the mirrors? Jay - does Stellaphane want the mirrors? Any interest in the OTA or mount? We are open to suggestions on how to take it apart and clear the space for the new 'scope that we hope will be coming in late January or February.

???????? Don't forget that after the meeting, it has been suggested that we head to Mr. G's (a restaurant close to campus) for a Turkey-day-season Club social. Everyone is welcome!

Re: CSC Changes

Ah, just clicked on Propbusters, and now see the ¡°ECMWF Cloud¡± line on CSC.

Back to Avery Pt (nearest to home), and I still only see the older display, even after I refreshed. Maybe they think Propbusters is closer to Europe than the SE CT shore. :-)

Like John, I also check Astrospheric since they claim to update more often.

Unfortunately, they both always seem to agree that the clear nights occur at or around full Moon. Also, when they disagree, it¡¯s usually for the worse. :-(

Couple of weeks back they both predicted clear skies after about 6 pm. Unfortunately, the clouds did not clear until after 10 pm, when my target for the night, Caroline¡¯s Rose, was already nearly out of the sliver of sky observable from my back yard. Fortunately, I was able to get some images a day or two later.

I agree George; NE observing conditions can be very frustrating!

No I hadn't noticed and I set up two of those - Hartford for ASGH and the VVO for the Van Vleck Observatory in Middletown.?
I have also had similar problems with Astropherics or however it's spelled/spelt spilled ish.

Hey Lee,

Thank you!?
?
About the NFA Observatory and the C14... The observatory originally opened in 1981 with a donation from Gladys Mallove on behalf of the Mitchell Mallove family.? I saw Halley's Comet through this telescope back in 1986 and remember it vividly looking like a dirty snowball.? It was an impactful experience.
?
I work at NFA and a few years ago, I decided to take on renovating the observatory.? I hadn't been used in a couple of decades.? So, using the existing dome base, installed a new 10' dome from Technical Innovations so that it could be computer controlled.? I also installed a new pier with a mounting plate to accommodate a Celestron CGX-L mount.? Except for some spots on the secondary mirror and a couple of little water stains here and there on the primary, the optics appeared to be OK.? Thanks to research on Cloudy Nights, lots of help from Jerry Tardif, and a few of you guys that I met at the Propbusters field in Salem, I was able to get the right AP equipment and understand how to get it to all work correctly!? I am using a ZWO ASI2600MC Duo, a ZWO EAF for focusing, a ZFO EFW filter wheel, a Starizona .7x reducer (thanks for this suggestion, John Natale!), and a ZWO ASIAir Plus and iPad Pro to control it all (with the exception of the dome).?
?
It's great to have it all working and it's been quite the journey.? If anyone needs help with getting a Celestron CGX-L mount to work with an ASIAir, let me know... that was a journey in itself.? (I hope some day ZWO makes a mount that can accommodate a C14 easily...)? I was able to clean up the secondary mirror on the C14 a bit by dumping distilled water on it, based on a recommendation from Cloudy Nights.? I cleaned the corrector using Pec Pads and methyl alcohol.? I had to troubleshoot and repair the circuit board in the Home Dome controller, so if anyone ever needs help with Technical Innovations stuff, let me know, too.
?
I run the amateur radio club at NFA () and have been getting the kids from our club involved with the observatory.? It's a good combo.
?
I am looking forward to having some public viewing nights.? And I look forward to seeing you guys again the next time you're in Salem!
?
Tony

Re: Photo M33Nov.jpg uploaded #photo-notice

Nice image Chuck. It's amazing how much detail you get with your close-up imaging. I like the natural colors in your image. Hard to believe it is only 60 second images.

Re: Photo M33 w_Ha.png uploaded #photo-notice

Thanks Jerry. Capturing the Ha isn't hard. It's the processing that is a killer :)
I spent weeks and many posts on CN to get what I got. For every 3 steps fwd it was 2 steps back. Glad you like it.

Re: Photo Notifications #photo-notice

Great first attempts Anthony! I still haven't processed my comet photos. Yours looks pretty good. Tell me more about the "Norwich Free Academy Observatory" and the C14.
