bilge pump

I need to replace my old peters and russell manual bilge pump. I would
like to hear what other t27 owners use as a bilge pump

I have a manual Whale Gusher Titan pump, bulkhead mounted on side of
cockpit. (and a bucket:)

I just posted an article we did on "Bilgepump" where tested 10 pumps.

The Whale Supersub 500 was our winner, and that's the one I ended up installing in my T27.
It fits well because it is narrow but yet powerful. I also have a manual Whale Gusher pump
installed as well.

Check the article in the "Files" section of this site, I will post it right now.

I have the magazine with that test in it. I'd love to get one of the
Supersubs but when I check online, most are in the UK... Where did you
get your's?

I used the West Marine pump.? There was another brand (rule) in there previously.? The PO had used garden hose and secured a board in the bottom of the hull that it and the float switch sat on.

?

I used a hall effect switch and the WM pump.? I like the cartridge pump.? I don¡¯t think it needs to be secured so it just sits in the crevice under the engine.? The hall effect sensor is epoxied in using a underwater epoxy from Home Depot.? Need to make sure it¡¯s clean first, I used some acetone on a rag to clean the fiberglass and then the epoxy mixes up easily.? The WM pump had to have a plastic tab broken off of it, but it¡¯s not a big deal.? I like this pump because it¡¯s cartridge based and a new one can be installed with little hassle.? It also includes a check valve.

?

I replaced the garden hose with ¡°bilge¡± hose.? The garden hose had gotten brittle, it was also narrower and less flexible.? Past that it probably wasn¡¯t awful.? It just made me uncomfortable.? I also used zip ties to secure the hose well up in the transom as far as I could get it.? This creates a nice vacuum breaker to prevent a siphon should Murphy and his damned Law come aboard for any length of time.? You know the saying, If it CAN go wrong, it WILL, in the WORST of moments.? J

?

I also used the water proof / underwater epoxy to fix some other things like the icebox drains.? I found it was extremely effective and didn¡¯t mind a little water.
