I have a beautifully refurbished centerboard ready to go in my boat. As I contemplate the difficult logistics of this, I'm wondering if anyone has installed one from the top ? I have a great fiberglassing resource, so sealing the trunk up again won't be a problem.

Re: Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!
After I disconnected the cable I found the regulator was seized and after some research I’ve leaned the injector pump is probably the reason. I’ve spent a couple of hours removing all the hoses and fuel lines and was able to remove the 4 retaining nuts and now I’m trying to remove the pump but I think I need to remove that bubble plate below to disconnect the [governor ?] that connects to regulator lever? Does that sound right. I’m being careful to retain the shims for proper timing Sent from my iPhone

I didn't catch earlier if you had a fuel filter hooked up. Regardless,
does fuel come out when you disconnect the fuel line and stick it in a
clean, salvaged glass jar, then turn the ignition on (don't have to
crank it over, just "acc"/on)? No fuel, suspect the filter first.
Assuming the filter is fine, if you can't prime the diesel with a hand
pump or the pump is making clicking noises but no fuel comes out,
stick a stick in the tank and see if you can scrape gunk off the
bottom. That's a big clue.
If no fuel is coming through, can you pump some clean diesel backwards
with a hand held fuel primer? If so, does fuel flow into the jar for
a moment afterward? Gravity feed should do the trick.
Clogged injectors are a possibility, but that was fine a bit ago.
Maybe one was clogged and you didn't notice but I rate that as less
likely. Suspect simpler problems first. And if they are clogged, I
have questions about the fuel filter and fuel tank so those should be
checked first anyway.
Does the fuel filter separate water? If not, get one that goes. You
need to know if there's water in the fuel, before you try to burn it.
It happens a lot and it's easy to deal with (drain it off the bottom
of the separating filter) but it's bad if you don't deal with it.
How's the oil now? And the oil quantity?
When you bleed the system, does fuel come out at the injector pump?
It's possible that you bled the system before but didn't get all of
the air out of the injection lines or pump.
If you don't have a water separating filter, stick the fuel line into
your green diesel jug and get the air out of the line or bleed it
again (I keep a generic 12 v small diesel engine fuel pump wired to
plug into a cigarette lighter style plug for testing and priming
lines) and try that. You'll have to turn it over for a bit (crank 10
seconds, wait 20, repeat several times) to pull the fresh fuel in.
(okay, more emails coming in while I write this, but it still may be
handy for a procedure for trouble shooting fuel problems... and your
service manual should have trouble shooting procedures too!)

Re: Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!
I changed both primary and secondary filters and bled the system at secondary pump. Engine starts up and idles well but there is very small amount on acceleration forward or reverse. Engine worked really well after I drained the crankcase and installed new lift pump and motors up river 2 hours at 2000 rpms. I’ve been starting the engine everyday since and watching the oil but hard to see new oil on the stick.? Sent from my iPhone

Good, renewing the fuel filter I suspect should solve your acceleration problem. I dunno how your fuel system setup might be … like, would it be possible to "easily" remove the fuel line between the tank and the filter and drain some fuel from the tank? If so, I'd get a clear gallon container, drain some fuel into the container and inspect for debris, water droplets and the like. If debris is apparent, drain another gallon to inspect and so on. Ideally, I would think it best to drain the tank completely and start all over at zero. The fuel system has probably been in service for FORTY years or so, chances are the tank has accumulated a lot of what-not over that period of time. My experience with diesel engines has primarily been with Cummins but all diesels will succumb to trash/water in the fuel. Good practice is to add PowerService additive on a regular basis, available at most WalMarts, most truck-stops. Primary purpose of the additive is to disperse water that inevitably finds its way into your fuel tank. Some say the additive also prevents some sort of microbial bloom, dunno much about that… John

Re: Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!
But did u renew the fuel filter? If and when u remove the old filter, if possible pour the contents of filter into a clear glass container to inspect for water and/or a milky fluid.?

Did you replace fuel filter while replacing lift pump? And how "fresh" is the fuel in the tank? PowerService additive might clean your pump, but if you did not replace the fuel filter, I'd suspect that to be the cause of no acceleration.?

New pump is in and bled the lines up to the injector pump. Engine is running well. Now I'll keep and eye on the oil level and pray that's where the leak was

Successfully removed lift pump, and headed to Shearwater marine in port Salerno to get a new one. Tomorrow I'll install and bleed the fuel lines, add 2 quarts of oil and cross my fingers!

Hi Folks, As a new T27 owner, I am really enjoying getting to know her sailing characteristics and I must say that she is impressively nimble for her size! I have a question for the group. While sailing in some strong winds over the weekend, I experienced a loud crack at the tiller head before reefing.? Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts as to what may be amiss? Thanks, Ron

Unless there's a fuel shut-off valve (always a nice feature) that's turned off
or the fuel tank is lower than the level that you lay the fuel line down
(unlikely), yes.
In an emergency, you can zip-tie the fuel line off higher than the fuel
thank, break the siphon (stop the flow once), and plug it with something
clean.
Also, after you run out of fuel, replace a fuel filter, or disconnect
then reconnect the fuel line, you have to go through the process of
bleeding the fuel line to get the air out. Please consult the manual
for your engine for details.
Consulting with a marine diesel mechanic who knows that engine will save
you a lot of time and misinformation. Various leaks may or may not be
possible or remotely likely. Other causes may be common and well known.
