Hi James, Well Dang!!! Guess I neglected to add the address. Look at this engine by Polini: James Fuller |
James, I have not flown with one of these engines but some of the local paramotor guys have the Thor 130, 190 and 200 series.? I see them fly and there seems to be more than enough power to get and keep these guys airborne.? Of course they don't have the structure of an aircraft to fly, but all in all, I am impressed with this engine line.? There are a number of dealers located in the US so one may be close by to where you live. ? ? I would like to see one of these engines flying on an ultralight similar to Mariah or a MiniMax.? That would tell me for sure how well they would work.? I think that the Polini Thor 130 evo would fly Mariah due to its light weight and similar stats as the Cuyuna 215R that was flown in the prototype.? If I were considering the Polini engines, I think that I would lean more towards the Thor 190 Light with electric start.? This engine with reduction and electric start weighs in at around 33 lbs but you get 27 hp.? The only issues that I hear about this engine line is that they are expensive. Have you considered the Hirth F-33?? I know of a few builder/pilots that have this engine and so far they seem to be happy.? I would buy a new model F-33, not one of the older models because they had issues.? The new ones offer 28 hp and have a 1000 hour TBO.? From what I have read and been told, they have been making that mark for the most part.? But, you have to remember to fly a 2 stroke like a 2 stroke, not like a 4 stroke engine. ? The new F-33 seems to have proven itself as the replacement engine for the Rotax 277.? The nice thing is that the weight is right around 40 lbs including the belt reduction drive.? I like the F-33 and think this would be a great and less expensive choice for Mariah.? No, I am not a Hirth dealer but I can supply new, NOS or overhauled engines. Hope this helps. Ride the Wind! Ken

James. WOW, $4556 is very high for the Hirth F-33.? Its a good, strong engine with a good TBO but man, that is expensive.? Did you contact Recreational Power Engineering of Tiffin Ohio?? They are a factory authorized distributor for Hirth, or they used to be.? They hard the F-33 for under $3K ready to fly for years.? Another builder/pilot bought his Hirth From Oregon Aircraft Design and I thought they were around the same price. The price on the Polini 190 engine wasn't too bad.? Not sure how much shipping would cost or even if you can get one shipped right now.? I think the Polini would be good also. ? I must be thinking about another foreign to the USA made engine that really was cost prohibitive.? The Polini is definitely in the attainable price range. Ride the Wind! Ken
