Boom end cap removal - Minifish II

 

I have a Minifish II and I need to replace the cheek block on the mast.? Is the endcap just plastic and does anyone have any tricks to remove it?? I want to install the new check block with bolts/washers/nuts for strength.? I could probably rivet it to get it working but i've read that's not very good since it's under strain from the sail.? If you have a better idea I would love to hear it.

Look very closely and there's probably a tiny pin though ?the end of the spar that's holding it in.?
Most of the hardware on these boats is more than capable of handling the (relatively small) loads so no need to replace it.?

Thanks Thomas, I think I will try and rivet a new one on there and see what happens.
 

Be sure to use an all-aluminum rivet.?
There should be a plug in the end of the spar. You can use the spar like a cookie-cutter to plug a piece of styrofoam. Shove it down in the spar an inch or so and then seal it up with a liberal amount of silicone caulk. No need for anything fancy.?
Then replace and rivet the cap.?
Do the same thing at the other end, and then do the boom and mast the same way.?
That way they won't fill with water if you capsize and turtle.?
