A SWEET REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION!

?

This coming Saturday, in the north woods of Wisconsin, there’s a sweet little regatta on Carpenter Lake (Eagle River, Wisconsin).

?

The Hanselman’s hospitality is unparalleled.

?

It’s been rainy and stormy all over the Midwest but the forecast both days next weekend, up in Eagle River, are bright sun, cool temperatures in the mid-70s, low humidity and a north wind at about 7 mph in the afternoons. Certainly worth the drive up from Chicago or over the UP from Michigan. Take an extra day or two and make it a real vacation. There’s lots of activity in the area for non-sailors in the family.

?

Please contact Dave Hanselman, via the link below on the Sunfish class website, for the complete scoop including housing options.

PS:? If you have any questions about participating in this this or any other Midwest regatta please feel free to email me back. If you haven't regularly raced, or haven't raced at a regatta, we will all help you get up to speed on rules and tactics. These are very friendly affairs.

Sounds like a fun event, would love to have more events posted like this in here. Add to the events calendar. I've been thinking that the race folks could figure out a way to add on a few fun sails where recreational folks could come out, maybe take a few tries at the course or just a fun day sail.

That's a darn good idea!

?

If there are a few folks who have never raced before someone more experienced could spend a few minutes with them on shore explaining rules, starting procedures and tactics. If the weather is nice, and not too challenging, they could start a few minutes behind the normal racing crowd, on the starting line that wouldn't be too crowded, and maybe take a shorter course around the buoys to get some experience.

?

This is a complicated sport and once someone has just a little bit of personal instruction things fall into place pretty quickly.

?

Best regards,

?

We suggested to the LP folks a few months back that there be a regional effort to put together some mess abouts, same day same way kind of events, just like minded Sunfishers gathering or go crazy and invite all LPers. There are about 1200 people in the Class Association but there are over 400,000 Sunfish out there, goofing off. LP just sponsored the Connecticut River Race early June, would be fun to see a few more events like that.

At Lake Norman Yacht Club, home of Sunfish Fleet 532, we are planning to add a "Fun" element to our Annual Board Bash Regatta. We have over 40 Sunfish at our club on only one or two of us are serious racers, members of the Sunfish Assn. There are many who just like to sail around, so we're thinking of adding a "Poker Sail" or some such event.?
