I recently bought a 1971 sunfish with the original brass bailer. It does not work very well. Water gets drained very slowly when doing at least 4 or 5 knots, but as soon as I tack or decelerate, water rushes back in.
Is that the way it is supposed to be? I don't think there is a ball inside, maybe is missing. Can I use the ball of a newer plastic bailer? How much should the cap be open (a few turns or all the way out, maybe)?
Sorry for asking so many basic questions, but reading that you guys are knowledgeable about the bailer, I wanted to piggieback on the discussion
