black camshaft dust cover on the left head

David White All Messages By This Member #63325 I picked up my rebuilt EJ22 heads from the local machine shop last night and I am putting them back together today. One thing that appears to be missing is the black plastic cover that protects that camshaft and oil seal on the left head, on the flywheel end of the engine. Is there a special oil seal that comes with this cover on it? Can I get by without this dust cover?
eric ley All Messages By This Member #63326 There is no seal in the cover and yes you can order the plastic's new from the dealer.
ric8721 #63329 LH(driver's side) rear as when in the Subaru car has a one piece rubber/plastic seal that cpovers the end of the cam. The RH/passenger side (when in the Subaru car is a bolt on aluminum cover, that has an O-ring as I recall. The Genuine Subaru seal kit has all that and all the many cam-belt cover rubbers and foam pieces too.
