Good afternoon.
To answer your primary question: ?There are no special requirements for a vanagon battery which will be starting and running a Subaru engine.
Since I’m hoping to halt a battery thread before it starts I will say that this topic is better suited for other forums/groups.
Thanks,

Hi!
?
I have a '90 Vanagon Westy GL, AT, EJ22E conversion (1993 2.2L Legacy Engine) that has a bad starting battery. I was wondering what folks are using for batteries in their Subaru conversions.
?
This may seem like an off-topic question, but I wonder if the cranking requirements for starting an EJ22 are different from the requirements for a stock 2.1L waterboxer. So, I wanted to see what folks with conversions are using.
?
Also, what group? I will probably stick with Group 41, but I've heard a lot of talk about Group T5 being a better fit under the passenger seat.
I'm currently looking at EverStart and Odyssey batteries. What else should I look at?
?
Thanks!
