I ultimately found and removed the complete bracket and compressor setup from a 2000 Legacy, which fit perfectly on the 90 EJ22, including the tensioner pulley. I used the old compressor for fitment purposes, then bought a rebuilt compressor from a vendor on Ebay for the same year and model. I got all hose hardware from Coldhose, including the special O-ring fittings needed for Subaru compressors.

Overall, it was not as painful as I thought, and I ended up concluding there are many newer years and models with AC setups that can be installed.
