I’m no one special but I googled the SVX wire harness and just removed all wires that didn’t have anything to do with the engine. It was pretty easy to modify for the Vanagon as all the wires are color coded but it was a little tedious. I remember that it was only one wire that interacted with the van, alternator light, everything else was pretty much a closed loop of engine to ECU and back.
