???????? I'd start by making sure ECU has accurate info,,, My VDubaru is a 90 2wd Westy with 01EJ25 & the VSS is in the Speedo
which without help provides incorrect speed info to the ECU,,, Back in 2011 I installed a Dakota Digital SGI5 to correct that & I
suggest that You might want to give that a try,,, The SGI5 doesn't seem to be available anymore but Dak'Digi' has an STA-1000
which appears to be a more sophisticated modern tech replacement ~
??????? Another thing You might want to look into is if Your ECU can be switched to Manual,,, My 01 ECU can do that via a jumper,,,
Not sure if that would help but might be worth a shot ~ I actually keep mine in AT mode 'cause I like the extra 75RPM it provides
