You should be able to have your trans adaptor (the part bolted to the trans) modified by a welding or fab shop, extending it an inch or so, or have a new one made the way you want. I've had this done for my 5 spd and it was amazingly inexpensive as so many small shops have waterjet or other computer controlled?cutters now. I went to a small , local off road racing shop and they were happy for the business and did a great job without a CAD drawing--just a sketch.
