Greetings All. This is my first post.
I recently noticed that the Otis the Vanagon has a bit of a coolant leak. I did some work tightening up coolant hose clamps and discovered that the carpet near the sliding door was soaked with coolant. Hmmm.
Turns out the rear heater core had a pretty big leak. Coolant was shooting out of the release valve, so I replaced the valve screw with a new one. That seemed to slow the leak, I think that the core has a leak in the bottom still, at least its not shooting out now. I see a new heater core in my future.
My question: After i replaced the rear heater core valve i went to test out the van. I put more coolant in the reservoir, since it seemed to have lost quite a bit. After letting it warm up and driving a mile or two the engine temp went all the way up and began flashing. I turned it off and checked the coolant level in the reservoir, and none had moved through. Is there something I am not doing correctly? Do I need to let the air out from the system? Any tips or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your help,
T.H.E. Kid
