It would be interesting to know (if possible) how the coolant works its anti corrosion function, I know VW was adamant about changing it yearly which I know we never remembered to do that often. But does it actually have a sacrificial anode type of additive that is used up over the course of a year, if it does then the more dissimilar the metals and the closer they are to each other the more powerful the reaction. Does anyone know an answer to this? Electrolysis of the old waterboxer heads was one of the main problems that caused them to leak. Keeping the metals similar has got to be the preferred method, no matter whether its sea water or kool aid coolant. We made up the one fitting that requires welding in our shop by Mig welding and it probably took less time to make then a copper T with the soldering. Jay ----- Original Message -----

Thanks a lot to every body who replied :-)I have to do is to stop it rubbing on stuff. Most (all?) the conectionsbtween two pieces of pipe will be made with rubber, or welded, so the corrosiona brass block to mount his depth sounder transducer - it made a VERY thinpart in the hull!!! |
