Gary,
Hobert has the most experience with the automatics, I believe
he has 2-3 of them working in his business. I believe the Subaru would drive
the auto
just fine and except for the fact that the mileage would be 2-3 miles less
I might consider
converting my truck. Too bad there is not a modern 4 speed automatic that
could slip in.

Subject: [subaruvanagon] Anyone with Subaru in automatic?
Hello
I have a '87 Wolfy weekender and a '92 Legacy engine and plan to do the
conversion in a few weeks. I am uncertain about whether I should do the
conversion using the automatic transmission. I have not seen any postings
describing how the conversion works with an automatic tranny. Kennedy has
a
kit for the automatic and says it works but suggests that the 4 speed
works
better. I currently have the kit for the automatic on order. I could
convert
to a 4 speed however it would be a lot of additional work and expense.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has or knows of someone who has done a
Subaru conversion on a Vanagon with an automatic tranny.
Please p-mail me.
Thanks
Gary
