USPS media mail rules was Re: [SouthBendLathe] Home Shop Machinist Magazines

I sell collectable comics and mags via eBay and have kicked this dead horse down the street many times. My *experience* is also that Media Mail items can go missing, even with tracking. I sold a DVD in mid-January and here's where it is today:

Media Mail rules applies to any publications (not just periodicals) containing advertising, including in-house ads for other publications. There is no mention of "new" or "used" and no exceptions for comic books, church publications, or in-house corporate newsletters.

I ship everything parcel post or first class depending on weight and customers do not complain.

Per section 170 of the DMM, <>

"Books, including books issued to supplement other books, of at least
eight printed pages, consisting wholly of reading matter or scholarly
bibliography, or reading matter with incidental blank spaces for
notations and containing no advertising matter other than incidental
announcements of books. Advertising includes paid advertising and the
publishers¡® own advertising in display, classified, or editorial
style."

Does not apply to shipping a bunch of old mags to a buyer. This is for shipping brand spanking new magazines to subscribers, one magazine at a time.

Can¡¯t mail magazines using USPS Media Mail apparently because they contain advertising. But this article says cheapest method is to use USPS Marketing Mail.
