Help with hand wheel
Son and I rebuilding 14-1/2’’ and need apron hand wheel, can't find an original but can get a cast iron wheel that looks close fairly cheap. Can someone tell us the size of original wheel, part book no help listed as NLA. Also is either 13’’ or 16’’ a match? Apron has a hub sticking out 2-1/4’’, shaft is 5/8’’diameter and sticks out 1-1/4’’ with through hole for pin. Hope this helps? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you. Dennis |

开云体育Hi Dennis & Fred, Please see attached for the carriage handwheel on our 1943 built 14.5 x 6' toolroom at the Golden valley Light Railway, UK. Might look tatty, but is actually in superb condition having been rebuilt by Sentinel at Shrewsbury in 1961 and little used since. There may well be a few of these brand new at the bottom of the Atlantic... Eddie

开云体育I forgot to mention. I measured the ends of the taper pin that holds it in place. It only just sticks through both sides. Large end 0.23", small end 0.20". Obviously you will probably have to ream through lightly. to get a good fit on the new pin, so BEWARE: Imperial standard taper pins & reamers are 1/4" per foot, i.e. 1 in 48, whereas metric ones are 1 in 50. Don't know where you are, but in the UK, the current retail default is metric. I also noticed that for some reason, ours also has a small Allen grub screw at about 90 degrees to the pin, and I have no intention whatsoever of opening that potential can of worms until I have to! Cheers, Eddie
