Re: QCTP Height Adjustment Screw

That works well when you need only a few screws modified, but if you need more than a few, you should look into making a "Lantern Chuck." I've got a couple projects coming up where I'll probably be modifying a couple of dozen screws, so I've been collecting plans for lantern chucks.??was the one I liked especially.?

??? ??? ??? Good point . I have a bin in one of my tool boxes full of different size coupler nuts & jam nuts which I use for when I have to chuck up allen or longer screws/bolts for modifying . I just thread them in as far as I need & then lock them in with a jam nut . Saves the threads from the chuck jaws , works for a regular vise & hack saw too .

If you can only get plain Allen instead of dog point Allen (or any other head of your choice) I would turn a dog point on the ends. Regardless of how good the screw metal is, it can still burr over in use, and then you have to file or grind a dog point on in situ to get them out. Much easier to have a turned down end to start with.

The stud probably is a 3/8 24 on a DOrian Or Alorias (sp) ,. All of the imports I have are metric , but I can't say what they are . Take the tool holders to your hardware store & see what threads fit . Is the hole on the non threaded one smaller than the stud from the other one ? I would think you would want all your threads to match on all your tool holders . A lot of these imports used real soft screws . When I got my set I went down to my hardware store & bought bag of 100 good quality screws & replaces all the dog point screws on the tool holders . If you cant get dog points , plain allen screws will work fine . I also picked up 20 good quality of the large allen screws for the height adjustment & a bag of jam nuts to fit them .

Hey Guys, Recently acquired a Phase 2 tool post for my SB9c. I also acquired a couple tool holders that are missing the height adjustment screw. One has a threaded hole for the adjustment stud, and the other has a smooth bore. I have read elsewhere that the stud is 3/8-24, but when I check another stud ( from a separate holder) with the pitch gage, 24 does not check. Thinking maybe metric, the stud measures 9.75mm in diameter with a 1mm thread pitch. I guess for the smooth bore hole, I can make a stud with a tight fit and thread the protruding end 3/8-24. Is anyone aware what the correct thread diameter and pitch are for the adjusting screw? Both holders are no-name imports. Thanks!
