Quick Question for the canon fanatics out there.

At the end of OotP.

Did the Death Eaters caught in the MoM go through a trial? I don't
remember reading about any trial and I want to make sure of it.

It wasn't mentioned. If they did, this information either never came
to Harry or wasn't important enough to him for the autor to mention
it. In HBP I think Lucius was still in jail, but there was no mention
of a trial there either. Given the Shunpike situation, I'd suspect
the Ministry has reverted to imprisonment without trial again.

Thanks. I thought that was the case. :)

Of course with the DEs offing Amelia Bones that could have postponed
any trials that were going to take place...

Nope. As far as this fic is concerned, book six doesn't exist.

Would that it were the case in reality... at least, from a ficwriter's
PoV. HBP has _so_ limited the scope of possible plots if canon is to be
adhered to. Shame.

Phil, who has at least 3 WIPs (some published, some not) that HBP has
forced into AUs, and is slightly annoyed by it.

I agree. I mean, the only valid plots that could be
easily continued are those focused on the romance and
less on the actual action. And Harry goes horcrux
shopping > kills horcruxes > gets together with Ginny
kills voldemort is a boring plotline already.
Crs, who is so annoyed that he has started his own
alternative to canon, starting with first year.

Nothing is mentioned in the book, as far as I remember.

That is exactly why I won't write a post HBP fic. It's far too
limiting.

Why be annoyed about your story being AU? We knew Sunset would be AU
from the moment the first word was put into a word processor file. Its
sequel will be even more AU. Our first two stories are totally AU now
thanks to HBP. And personally I think our stories are better than HBP
but thats beside the point. :)

I've always looked at any story I write as being AU the moment the first word of the story makes it to the page, be it electronic or paper.? I am not going to write the story that another writes, and I'm certainly not going to write at JKR's level.? (Personal opinion is that I'd be writing DOWN to her level after HBP, but that's just a very dissatisfied reader talking.)

I have no problem with AU. In fact, by definiton, fanfiction is AU.
The story I am writing, "Stranger in a strange land" set out from the
begining to be AU, as I doubt JKR would ever write in Sirius's return,
the explorer corps, and the conquest of earth by an invading fleet,
with Harry Potter at the helm and Weasely the tactician plotting it.
