Chapter 15
Do
You Prefer Spoiler Space? Or Can We Just Jump In With Comments? Excellent chapter as usual! I love your action scenes. I'm wondering if the attempt on Snape could actually be considered just a "warning". Given how physically tough wizards are (e.g., Neville falling quite a distance in SS and only getting a broken wrist) it's possible that Snape would have been expected to survive a fall like that with some painful injuries to get the point across - then he'd be jumping at shadows for a while until one of the shadows finally jumped at *him*. The DEs want him to *know* what's coming - killing him fast with the first attempt would not satisfy their sadistic tendencies. Poor Mrs. Norris! I hope she manages to find a new person. (Any chance of a Crookshanks/Mrs. Norris pairing? And kittens?) Really minor nitpick: "Her parents were laying on the floor covered in blood." They were "lying" on the floor, not "laying." "Laying" is the act of putting something down; once it's down, it remains "lying" there. I do love the way people are actually PAYING ATTENTION to Luna! In too many fics, she just wanders around saying insightful stuff and nobody pays attention because she's weird. Of course, she's just a little more focused than usual here. Does Harry know how to Vanish (as opposed to Banish) things yet? If so, he should set up a Vanishing location of, say, the bottom of the Marianas Trench, and Vanish things like Howlers, DE's wands and things there. Hell, Vanish the DE's themselves! Feed 'em to a kraken! (Vanishing is a potentially lethal spell; wonder why nobody uses it that way?) Keep up the good work! I'm waiting eagerly for next week's chapter! Dorothy |
there is another story (It's My Life?) where the spell used was a trash banishment spell that sent the trash to a Icelandic volcano. Worked well in the story for 4 DE's.

But I could be wrong. :) Poor Mrs. Norris! I hope she manages to find a new person. (AnyMrs. Norris and Crookshanks? What a pairing! I do love the way people are actually PAYING ATTENTION to Luna! InLuna is an interesting character, she deserves much more air time that we're giving her here. The problem is that Harry is still human enough to be subject to surprise and the confusion that brings. His ability to manipulate auras will be pivotal, but he doesn't really understand it all that well yet. It will take time, and more instruction than he's currently getting. Yes he could have manipulated the auras of the howlers, one at a time to deactivate, but right now its an ability he doesn't want to flaunt and it would have taken him too long per howler. Hermione's solution was quicker. - Bob |
