Re: new ffn problem. ATTN Rai
开云体育I agree, but there may be hardware
issues.? If they're running XP, it's likely the hardware dates
back that far.

Re: new ffn problem. ATTN Rai
Please stop mentioning Windows 10. I have already explained that I am stuck with what I have for the foreseeable future. My computer is an old Win 98 upgraded to XP. It barely runs XP. It cannot handle anything higher.
I am broke(have no money), crippled, and living in a nursing home. All my "good stuff" was stolen when my house was broken into while I was away. This old computer can barely handle Win XP now. Especially with half of it's capacitors blown. I cannot "upgrade". And going to anything above XP would mean I could no longer play my old games, use my old programs, or other such stuff that actually needs XP. Besides... I hate Windows 10. I tried it once on a friend's laptop, and it really sucked balls. I'll stick with XP instead. It is more user friendly. So everyone who mentioned Win 10, stop. I'm not interested. And Rai, if you can't make a new FFDownloader that is XP compatible... how about adjusting 0.8.13 so that it can download again? |
Re: new ffn problem. ATTN Rai
I'd strongly recommend against running a 32bit OS at this point in time; almost all modern applications are deployed with 64-bit binaries only. Understand that the transition to 64-bit was made back during the Server 2003 days; the world's been on 64-bit for more than fifteen years now, and trying to run a 32bit OS will cause you to struggle?to find applications that work. I'd also strongly recommend against running any desktop version of Windows that is NOT Windows 10 - Windows 7 sunset in January 2020 (it was extended several years from the original EOL) and Windows 8.1 reached end of life in 2018.? Updates for them stopped being written back then, so patches against new vulnerabilities and to solve problems have permanently ceased, nor will Microsoft do more than 'best effort' tech support if you have a problem of some kind. Windows 10 is fast, stable, and reliable.? It has been so for a number of years now, and there's no reason not to move forward with it.? I have a key for it if you need one. Re: new ffn problem. ATTN Rai
开云体育Hi, I'm getting multiple emails about the 64 bit problem so I'll
build a 32 bit version as soon as possible - as long as my
buildserver will do as i tell him. (Didn't expect that to still be
a problem) I expect that it'll definitifely run on win 7/8.1 But I have no idea about XP. If it's not running there then
there's nothing I can do about it since I can only support
plattforms that the framework supports. And according to their
website thats Win 7, 8.1 and 10, macOS 10.13, 10.14 10.15. It's
really not a matter of "I don't want to" but only "I simply can't
do it technically" But if 0.9.1 (which still was 32 Bit) wasn't able to run on XP
then that will be likely also be true for 0.9.2 and following. Raimond Am 21.12.2020 um 13:30 schrieb Ariel

I'm testing with Taylor Varga (FFN Version) with 393 chapters and over 1 Million words.
Note that the SV version is at 580 chapters with 1.9 Million words.
I am testing with TV while logged in, but I will also do a test while logged out using a smaller fic to see if there is any difference in number of chapters grabbed.
The FFD version I downloaded today shows the correct number of chapters (1 to 393) in the boxes.
OK, the download itself took about 10 minutes and the HTML file shows all the indicated chapters.
One thing I have noted is that the conversion to PDF does takes exponentially longer as the size of the fic increases.
That might just be down to problems in whatever converter process/plugin is being used.
For example, a single large chapter will normally take about 30-60 seconds to convert while TV's 393 chapters has taken over three hours so far and is still going.

As I usually prefer Linux, I tried the Windows port on my only remaining Win10 machine. I got a captcha when going from an author page to a story, but not when going directly to a story (from Google). They stopped after I logged in.
As far as long stories go, I used RobSt's Harry Crow () at 737k words as an experiment. When not logged in, it only grabbed 52/106 chapters. Trying again (after logging in) it got 104/106 chapters. I don't know if logging made a difference or not. I'll try to bring another Windows box up tomorrow to see if the difference is in the login and will try the Linux port when available. Mike |

Seems to be working on Win 7-64 from being logged in. Since I'm never logged out, I couldn't tell you if there are Capchas for unlogged in users. Alysson Rowan LinkedIn:????? Academia:??? Captchas on ff.net are not showing for me, have never shown for me on any browser that I can use.

Hmm, I didn't intend to support only 64 bit, but very likely that was an automated setting. I'll try to build a 32 bit version in the evening, but no promis that it'll be online this evening. I thought you were dead. ... You're actually alive!O_O Wow... Good.^_^ If you're still alive, and making fixes, could you fix 0.8.13? It's the last version I can use. I'm stuck using a Win XP computer. And no way to change that for the foreseeable future. And later versions DO NOT work on XP. How come you never answer your site's message board? It's full of spam. That's why I thought you were dead. Hope you can fix 0.8.13, or make new versions that work on XP as well. |
