Reader's block.

CRS

Hey guys. I have a problem. I have reader's block. do
you know a story good enough to get me out of it?
Preferably a good, completed Harry/fem.Slytherin,
other than Apprentice Potter or White Knight, Grey
Queen. Or a Harry/Padma, or a Harry/Susan...

Something that will get me out if this. I'm sick if
reading H/G and H/Hr.... with few exceptions.

Help?

I agree with you on the Quidditch thing. but Harry
needs a medium of relaxation. Most auhthors use
Quidditch, you used smething else... walks with
Giny... sitting by the fire... in SoB there is
Hermione and their training, and the time at the
pool....

When's the next chapter coming out?

QUIDDITCH!! This is simple. Harry's learned he's got
a evil dark lord
out to kill him. Well gee, play quidditch or learn
to defend myself.
Tough choice eh? Seriously though, far too many
authors hit a
stumbling block so instead of advancing the story
they throw a
quidditch game into the story. Now that I've read
literally hundreds
of games I refuse put much of a reference to
quidditch in our stories.
Games are usually mentioned in a sentence or two.

Ickle - Seriously where the hell did this word come
from and do the
British really use it without realizing how silly
they sound? Ickle
Ronniekins, Ickle Harrykins, Ickle Albuskins,
Icklesmickle. I won't
use it.

Relationships you won't see. Any Teacher with a
student. Thats just
wrong. Personally I'd hook Snape up with a hungarian
horntail but my
wife likes him. I had to fight with her to go with
an evil snape for
this story. She doesn't see snape, she sees some
actor named alan
rickman... yawn!

And while I'm at it, here's a pet peeve you won't
see in our files
relating to SEX! Yes, thats right sex!

You can tell an author has no clue about sex when
(a) the girl loses
her virginity and experiences a massive orgasm on
her first time (This
is more a male teenage fantasy than a reality
although it can happen),
and (b) manages positions which would break the
bones on a
contortionist. First times are rarely pleasant even
when you have a
comfortable position let alone having Hermione or
Ginny performing a
double flip full gainer with a half twist to impale
herself on some guy.

Maybe there should be a law that says you should
have a little bit of
experience on the subject before you write about
sex?

Ok, I'm done blowing off steam, and going back to
writing again. :D

Harry Potter and the Freedom Of Apathy by nonjon. It

Redemption by krtshadow. Finished.

Fixing Broken Glass is completed and quite a decent

The Realization of Fate is a work in progress. Quite
good and I'm
really hoping the author keeps it moving.

There are literally hundreds of azkaban fics ranging
from 500 words to
nearly 100K words that are incomplete. Most are
abandoned from what I
can see. And its really a shame, the premise of a
Harry sent to jail

I don't know if most people abandon their fics
because they don't have
a plot outlined, or they just get bored with it. All
I can say is it's
might frustrating.

The original Azkaban story, as far as I've been able to determine,
the one which set everything off, was "Betrayed" by Kateydidnt.? It
has the earliest publication date of any of the Azkaban stories on
ff.net (4/1/03), although it wasn't finished until just before HBP
came out (7/15/05), when the last few chapters came out after a long
hiatus.

I have managed to track down one Azkaban story that was published on
Skyehawke prior to that, but it differs from the kateydidn't model
in that Harry actually did the crime, was convicted, served his time
out, and the story is about how he and the people around him react
when he tries to adjust to wizarding life again.? This one was done
just a week before "Betrayed" came out, and Skyehawke was just
getting started then, so I don't think it had much influence.? But
it's an interesting story nonetheless.

A decent completed one is krtshadow's "Redemption", which is about
how Harry slowly rejoins the human race, and the risk Remus and
Sirius take to get him there.? It's post-GoF.

There's also "Harry Potter and the Total Betrayal", by Mione5 (which
has vampires!):

And "Fixing Broken Glass" by YamiPaladinofChaos:

(These are ones that I've read and can vouch for as being decent
stories.? You could also go to ff.net and run a search for "Azkaban
Harry complete" and get a bunch more titles.)

I've got one that I started a while back, but in it Harry was kept in
Azkaban by Voldemort. But like you said about most others, it isn't
finished. I didn't know how to write much more (stopped at 20K), and pulled
the story. I can't stand to find abandoned fics so once I realized I
couldn't finish it I pulled it off the sites.

There's plenty of angst out there that isn't slash, and plenty of
slash that isn't angst.

As for the Azkaban genre, I suspect that a large part of the problem
is that the authors have no real outline or idea how to *resolve* the
situations they've created. It takes a skillful writer to work out
the conflict and bridge the gaps between Harry and his betrayers, and
not everyone can do that.

I actually think this isn't specifically an Azkaban problem, but a
fanfic problem in general, particularly the "fad" stories. A new idea
comes out (like, say, manipulative!Dumbledore after OotP) and all of a
sudden everyone's writing about it ... and many if not most of those
stories are never completed. Maybe it's worse for the Azkaban stories
because some of the other fad genres at least have obvious
resolutions. Even the original Azkaban story was left unresolved for
the longest time. By the time the difficulty became evident, however,
a lot of other stories had been started.
