When I worked for NBI, lo, these many moons ago, we engineers used to joke that we couldn't work in sales because we had too much respect for our fellow humans.
At one point, management prohibited the engineers from discussing technical topics in the cafeteria. That was because the salesmen (and they were all men doing sales for NBI back in the early 1980s) would listen to what was being discussed, then offer it to customers without verifying that it was something that was actually available for the word processors we developed, and not, say, something that had been announced in BYTE magazine, or the subject of a research article in one of the academic journals the company library subscribed to.
