A lot of the fics I've read have interpreted 'mark
him as his equal'
as 'at the end, will *meet* as equals in magical
strength'. (This
seems to be where you're going too? And this is
possibly where JKR is
going.)
Another interpretation is that Voldemort and Harry
were equals in some
way on that night, and that can (and probably has)
change at anytime
afterwards at any scale. The prophecy *doesn't*
say they *meet* as
equals, and if they were to, by equal, it could
not be in every way
because of Harry's Power, friends, etc... The most
obvious aspect they
could be equal in is magical strength, but it
could be anything else.
And if one looks at the prophecy another way, they
need never be
equals at all.
You can twist the prophecy in a dozen different
ways. Heck, you can
even make a case that HBP threw the whole prophecy
out the window. Its
all a matter of personal interpertation.
Personally in canon I think the horcrux concept
ruined the prophecy.
Not there is no "power he knows not". Find
horcruxes, destroy them.
Nice power there Harry. :)
I think that Harry will need that "Power the dark lord
knows not" to take out the final piece of Tom's soul.
The other horcruxes will be destroyed by then, and it
will be up to Harry and tom to slug it out. That's the
point "the power he knows not" will come into play.
