I may be able to help
The UK military is a somewhat flexiable organisation.
Basic structure
Sections (Sect) - 4 sects =
Platoons (Plt) - 4 Plt =
Company (Coy) - normal;y 3 "rifle" coys per Bn, 1 Heavt Weapons,
Headquarter and Quartermaters (Supply) =
Battalion (Bns) - The basic unit, Size will vary with unit type and
role. ie Infantry in a light role (ie non-mechanised) will be around
650 men. In a Mechanised role is goes upto 700+ as it get additional
men to man the MCV's
Regiment - has TWO meanings - ne is historical and is
a "administrative) and refers to the historical structurte of
multiple Bns with one for foreign service and one acting as the
depot and home service Bns.
The second is that Cavalry and Tank Bbs are called Regiments and
have 3-4 "Sabre" Suadrons which are the fighting elements and
Headquarters and Support Squadrons.
Brigade = 2-4 Bns. Again depends on role. A Mech Bridage will be
Infantry Heavy (2 x Infantry Bns, 1 x Tank Regt); Tank Heavy (1 x
Infantry Bns, 2 x Tank Regt); Square (2 x Infantry Bns, 2 x Tank
Regt); each Brigade will also have Headquarters, Supply and
Artillery
Units attached to it
2 - 3 Brigades = Division
The Special Forces are a seperate organisation as are the Royal
Marines
Is this what you were after?
