Iowa Work
Two announcements: 1 - This came in a few days ago from Lauri Chappell (lchap@...) at Berger. I was on the road hence the delay for getting this out. --------------------------------------------------------------- Berger currently has crew positions open immediately in Iowa. Applicants must have a BA degree in Anthro or a related field and a field school to qualify. We offer benefits to our crew members!! Please pass the word along that we have positions available for extended periods. I can be reached at 319/373-3045. Interested crew members should fax their resume to me at 319/373-7566. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2 - Shovelbums now has over 300 subscribers, with a fair number of these from overseas, primarily Europe and Australia. However these users have commented that the only job postings being broadcast on here are for US work. I would like to request that any subscribers who are aware of CRM type firms in other countries send a note to me at: rjoe_brandon@... and let me know how to contact these firms so that they can use this medium to advertise jobs. Or if you are related to one of these firms if you could spread the word and help expand the international job postings on shovelbums. Thanks. R. Joe Brandon

Crew needed
I know this list is for paying jobs, but how can I notify students, interested volunteers or people who want some field experience on a non-paying project? I am an archaeologist, now working for the Pinellas County (Florida) Park Department. I am doing a Phase I (and possibly more) in a proposed park which contains 3 and possibly 4 known sites. It's a beautiful spot, right on the Gulf of Mexico, 2 miles south of Tarpon Springs and less than a mile north of the famous Crystal Beach site. I have plotted out approximately 400 Shovel Test Pits at 20-meter intervals. So far, another naturalist and I have dug 68 of these, working two days per week around our other duties. Obviously, we need help if we want to finish the job before the year 2010. Unfortunately, the county has allotted no funds for this project and no wages can be paid. I'm lucky I got them to allow me to do it at all. So if you know of anybody who lives near Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater and wants some field experience, have them contact me: sgaber@... They can call me at 727-786-5369 at home or 727-527-3814 at the office of Sawgrass Lake Park. Thanks for any help you can provide. Steven Gaber, Park Naturalist Sawgrass Lake Park St. Petersburg, FL

Fieldwork in Gettysburg posting 2
Hey, group - I tried to reply to the following and got no answers. Sent an email and called the 800 number - left two messages. Called again and spoke to a woman in the wrong department when the operator could not find anyone in the right department. The woman I spoke with was very nice and helpful. But still received no reply from the "right" department people. What's the deal? Did anyone else respond to this? What result? Thanks + let's hope for better opportunities. The list is great. Update -> Re: Fieldwork in Gettysburg posting
I looked into B Parks comments that the most Gettysburg posting had some inaccurate information regarding contact numbers. The companies web site (http://www.gaiconsultants.com/) provided me with this contact information: Contacting GAI Consultants Inc. Surface Mail GAI Consultants Inc. 570 Beatty Road Monroeville, PA 15146 Phone and FAX Phone (412) 856-6400 FAX (412) 856-4970 Email Addresses human_resources@... There are a number of CRM jobs listed on their projects page at http://www.gaiconsultants.com/proj_pro.htm and the company appears to have several offices so I would suggest calling the number above and finding out which local office is coordinating this or any other project. If there are any further problems with this contact please write to me off list at: rjoe_brandon@... While I will usually send out some comment about not posting to the list I do appreciate the heads up on this one :) R. Joe Brandon ------------------------------- R.
