Hello,

Welcome to the list. Please take a moment to review this message.

To unsubscribe from this list, go to the ONElist web site, at
www.onelist.com, and select the User Center link from the menu bar
on the left. This menu will also let you change your subscription
between digest and normal mode.

I hope you enjoy this list and we, as a community of shovelbums, make this
into
something we can all use.

Several important points to be aware of:

-Do not send posts to this list as *attachments*. Only cut and past text
into
the body of your message. There are a number of users who access this list
using text only e-mail programs that do not handle attachments well, and
they
may not have translators for your wordprocessor. This also applies to
e-mail
programs that allow you to send messaages in HTML, use the text only option
if
possible.

-If this becomes a high traffic list I encourage you to change your
subscription

to "digest" which will allow to receive one e-mail a day with all of the
days
messages in it.

-This is not a discussion list, shovelbums_gossip@... will serve
that
purpose. This list is simply for archaeology job announcements.

-This list is not for fieldschool announcements. For field schools please
use
shovelbums_bc@....

-Any flame war intiators/participants will be removed from the list.

-Anyone who forwards Jokes/Virus warnings to the list will be removed.

-Anyone falsifying a job posting will be removed.

Thanks,

Full time postions Huston or Cincinnati

R. Joe Brandon

I must reiterate for the new folks on the list that shovelbums proper is not a
discussion list. If you want to discuss things (such as why are there so
many Brandons in archaeology...this posting is a forward from another
branch of the Brandon tree who harkens from Tennessee....;-) then please
sign up for the shovelbums_gossip list. The folks on gossip signed up
expecting dialouge, the folks on this list only want to see or post job
announcements. As the list is young these mis-steps are not to be unexpected.
But as a number of you have written me encouraging me to keep this list
"dialouge" free I will continue to do so. So thanks for grinning and
bearing it and keep the job announcements coming.

....now onto the job's!!!!.....

Well, Shannon, here's one of the first things you learn as a shovelbum:
After you have a year or two of experience and meet another field tech.,and
discuss your individual experiences in the field you will find that either
you each know some of the same people or have worked with the same person.
My son, Dan worked on that cemetery project in Houston.

shovelbums update

R. Joe Brandon

Folks,

I want to remind you all that shovelbums was not advertised as a discussion
list. This list is simply for job announcements, rumors of where jobs are,
queries of where jobs might be. To be fair to the majority of the
subscribers please do NOT post generic questions to this list. Multiple
case offenders will be removed at my discretion for the greater good of
the list. Also remember this list is designed for professional
practicing (or student) archaeologists looking for gainful employment, not
amateurs or pot hunters. I would also like to discourage anyone from
posting "I am qualified for X" postings, these postings which would be more suitable for shovelbums_gossip, not this list.
When shovelbums.com is up finally I am hoping to have a section for people to
do self promotion but this list is not the medium. I do understand folks
desire to do those promotions though and do encourage you to set up a
dialouge on shovelbums_gossip for such discussions.

Sorry if this is a bit harsh, but as the list is new now is the
time to set the rules that will guide it. I do not want to begin loosing
subscribers becayse this list is not what it was advertised to be.
This list has a very narrow focus for a good reason. If there
are any comments on this policy please drop me a note off list at
shovelbums@...

Thanks for your time.

Re: Pipeline Project

Jacob Hopping

I have made two very strange finds in the woods in southeastern virginia.
both of which are stones..one white, one granite..the white stone is about
4"x10" and two connecting sides of it (one length side and one width side)
have been filed down so their edges are smooth..the filing also made them
at a roughly right angle to one another..the granite stone is triangular,
with all of the sides filed down smoothly..it's obvious these are man made
and not naturally occuring
they were found within 150 yards of one another
are these property markers? indian implements? tombstones? or what?
anybody know?
