Job Opening


The Archaeology Department at Thomas Jefferson's
Poplar Forest has re-opened
its search for a qualified candidate to fill an
opening in the archaeology
laboratory. The position will begin in the fall of
2000 and continue through
the end of 2001. Staff works a 37.5 hour week.
Benefits include paid sick
days, ten days vacation and health insurance coverage.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a
bachelor's degree in
Anthropology or a related discipline and will have
held previous employment
in laboratory positions. Familiarity with the
material culture of the 19th
century is essential. The candidate should also have
strong database
skills.

The Archaeology Department at Thomas Jefferson's
Poplar Forest has immediate
openings for field technicians to conduct
archaeological survey. Positions
will continue through the end of 2001. Staff will work
a 37.5 hour week.

Candidates should have earned a bachelor's degree in
Anthropology or a
related discipline with practical training in
archaeological survey. The
ability to work effectively as a member of a team is
essential. Familiarity
with prehistoric and historic material culture of the
mid-Atlantic is
preferred.

Field Technician, Curtilage
The Archaeology Department at Thomas Jefferson's
Poplar Forest has an
immediate opening for a field technician. The position
will continue through
the end of 2001. Staff will work a 37.5 hour week.

Field work will include survey and recovery of
evidence of Jefferson's
ornamental landscape. Candidates should have earned a
bachelor's degree in
Anthropology or a related discipline with training in
historical
archaeology. Familiarity with the excavation of
complex stratigraphy and
with 19th century material culture is required, and
experience in landscape
archaeology is preferred. Preference will be given to
candidates with at
least three field seasons of experience. The ability
to work effectively
independently and as a member of a team, and to
interpret archaeological
work to the public is essential.
