Archaeologist
This position is restricted to British Columbia residents who are
legally entitled to work in Canada and who have recently
received a degree in archaeology/anthropology. The job is partially
funded by the First Job in Science and Technology 2000
program of the provincial government, and because of this, the
successful applicant cannot have previously held a full time job
in archaeology.
Responsibilities will be to supervise and participate in an historical
archaeology excavation of an early Chinese Canadian site in
the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. The position has funding
for 30 weeks. The successful candidate must be able
to work independently of supervision and manage a crew of 2 or 3. The
program has a preference to recent graduates under
30 years of age.

Job Openings with Panamerican Consultants Incorporated

10 field techs for a Phase I survey at Fort Polk in Leeseville, LA.
The 5000 acre survey will last 4 - 5 months, and the possibility exists

Southwest Archaeological Consultants
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Southwest Archaeological Consultants has new openings for field
archaeologists in Raton, New Mexico. Our field season is extending into
September, October and November, and we are accepting resumes at this
time. Additional projects are scheduled for the fall and early winter in
Grants and Santa Fe. Fieldwork consists of excavation and survey. Some
in-house laboratory work also is available, with possible carry-over
through
the winter. Wages are dependent upon experience.

TECHNICIANS AND CREW CHIEFS IN NORTHERN COLORADO AND
SOUTHERN WYOMING
Lone Mountain Archaeological Services, Inc. has openings for
archaeological technicians and crew
chiefs for a survey project in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming.
Work is scheduled to
begin July 26
th
and will continue for several weeks. The successful candidates will be
self-motivated,
flexible, and possess exceptional field skills, and be dedicated to the
maintenance of high
professional standards. Crew chiefs should be BLM permitted in these
areas or have the required
experience and education to become permitted immediately.
Required qualifications are:
B.A. or M. A. in anthropology/archaeology, with a basic understanding
of method and theory.
Ability to conduct basic identification of cultural materials and
in-field lithic analysis.
Established field skills, including (but not limited to) experience
with compass and SLR
cameras.
Competence in reading topographic, aerial, and project maps.
Ability to draw accurate site maps and complete site forms.
Ability to write accurately, clearly, and concisely, and to follow
stylistic guidelines.
Willingness to take direction from managers.
Ability and willingness to serve and an in-field client contact.
Ability to walk several miles per day carrying a backpack, under
adverse conditions.
Crew chiefs:
Minimum of two years experience in cultural resource management, with
demonstrated survey
skills and supervisory experience.
Ability and willingness to teach and mentor crew members.
Clean driving record and ability to drive a manual transmission
vehicle (preferred).

Baseline Data, Inc. has several openings for qualified archaeologists to
fill
field crew positions on a large excavation project near Salt Lake City,
Utah.
There may also be one opening at the crew chief level. The project will
begin July 31st and last through December. Pay will be $10.00-14.00 per
hour, depending on experience. A per diem allowance will be provided for
non-local workers. Minimum qualifications for crew positions are
completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience,
and
the ability to work well with other crew members and supervisors.
Applicants with at least a B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology and
substantial
experience excavating prehistoric sites will receive preference. For the
crew
chief position, applicants with an advanced degree in Anthropology /
Archaeology and experience in the archaeology of the Great Basin or
surrounding areas will receive preference.
