Position Overview:

As a Crew Technician, reporting to the Project Director and Crew Lead, you will conduct reconnaissance survey, establish grids, artifact collection, test unit, feature excavation, and documentation. To this end, Crew Technicians are required to perform the following task in the field:

  • Conduct archaeological survey, testing and data recovery
  • Point-locate observation and surface collection units as well as surface artifacts using a Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receiver and/or Field Maps
  • Draw features in plan and profile that confirm to SRI mapping conventions
  • Clean and straighten the walls of a test unit or trench
  • Complete field forms and accurately and concisely
  • Properly label collection bags and samples

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • A minimum of 1 year of field experience in monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery projects, though applicants with less experience may be considered
  • Physical fitness to work long hours in challenging environments, including extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and high altitudes, while carrying 40 lbs. of equipment
  • Strong organizational skills, positive outlook, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is between $ 21.00 and $25.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Daily food allowance, when applicable based on the project, will be offered up to $59/day (no receipts required), and single-occupancy hotel accommodations will be provided. Eligibility to accrue PTO hours.
