Archaeological field technicians FOR INTENSIVE archaeological survey in Killeen, TX

Project Description and Schedule

UES is hiring two field technicians to help conduct an Intensive Archaeological Survey of approximately 50 acres in Kileen, TX. The survey is expected to be conducted in two 8-hour field days. The position has potential for long-term, permanent employment for the driven, collaborative, and reliable archaeologist. The ideal candidate will have experience with Phase I survey methods, including shovel testing, an understanding of the prehistoric archaeological record of central Texas or surrounding areas, familiarity with digital data collection, and an appreciation for the importance of efficiency and teamwork in archaeological survey workflows.

This work is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, January 13 and last two days. UES is seeking local field technicians.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this project will be between $24 and $26, commensurate with experience and attitude. Per diem and lodging are not offered for this project because it is a local effort. Responsibilities

• Conduct pedestrian survey and shovel testing under the supervision of a UES field director.
• Identify both precontact and historic-era archaeological isolates and sites.
• Record shovel tests, artifacts, and sites using digital recording platforms.
• Perform cursory artifact analysis (e.g., quantification, attribute analysis, photographs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to dig shovel tests in difficult soils, meeting daily shovel test quotas.
• Basic proficiency in navigation/orienting (using a compass and GPS).
• Attention to detail and good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Basic proficiency in digital field data collection.

Preferred Qualifications

• A BA in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field is preferred but is not necessary if the applicant has one or more years of experience in CRM.
• 3-6 months previous archaeological experience on pedestrian surveys in Texas or surrounding areas.
• Familiarity with precontact and historic artifacts of Texas
