Lithic Laboratory Analyst

The Frederick, Maryland office of Goodwin & Associates, Inc. is currently taking applications for a Laboratory Analyst with a specialization in pre-contact period lithic artifacts.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Completing and coordinating post-field processing of collections, including checking in artifacts, washing, and bagging;
  • Cataloging pre-contact artifacts and providing basic analytical summaries of archaeological assemblages to Project Managers;
  • Assisting in the writing of laboratory methods and producing inventories for report production;

Other duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and preparing samples for specialized analytical studies such as soil floatation, residue analysis, archaeobotanical identification, pollen analysis, etc.;
  • Photographing artifacts for presentation in technical reports, public archaeological materials, presentations and other publications;
  • Mentoring and supervising interns in the laboratory

While this primarily is an office/lab position, candidates must be willing to participate in field projects, both local and non-local, as needs arise.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • B.A./B.S. (M.A./M.S. preferred) in Archaeology/ Anthropology;
  • Successful completion of an accredited archaeological field school;
  • Artifact processing experience, including pre-contact period lithic artifact identification and analysis. Knowledge of historic period material culture is a plus;
  • Familiarity with database platforms such as Microsoft Access?,?as well as photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop are preferred.
  • Previous experience on Phase I, II, or III cultural resource projects is a plus;
  • A valid Driver¡¯s License;
  • Can pass pre-employment testing.

This is a full time, salaried, professional position with full benefits package (paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave; health, dental, and life insurance; and a liberal 401(k) plan). Salary for this position starts at $44,720.00 annually. Compensation may vary based on educational and professional experience.
