Crew Chief or Field Director in the Great Basin with Water, Civil, and Environmental Inc.
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLocation: Boise, Idaho, with travel throughout the Great Basin? ? Title: Crew Chief or Field Director? ? Schedule: Seasonal Full Time? ? Travel to be on an as-needed basis, up to 100%? ? Pay/Benefits: ~$25/hour DOE. Travel is paid in advance with cash at 100% local per diem rates for single-occupancy hotel rooms. Camping will not be required.? ? Travel time is paid to and from project locations and between the hotel and project site (i.e., daily travel time).? ? ABOUT THE COMPANY? Water, Civil, and Environmental Inc. (WCE Inc.) is a small, woman-owned, SBA 8(a)-certified, environmental and engineering consulting firm founded in 2013. WCE Inc. is a leader in local and regional environmental projects and is involved with all project implementation and coordination phases. As a Crew Chief or Field Director, you will work with the Senior Archaeologists to determine project feasibility, needs, and planning. Your work will be instrumental in leading crews on pedestrian surveys throughout the Great Basin on Section 106 projects, primarily for State and Federal agencies.? As a Crew Chief or Field Director, you will be responsible for planning and preparing field crews for project completion. This will include daily oversight of crew members, assigning duties, training crew members on field techniques, and maintaining project timelines. While you will be working and supervising crew members, Senior Archaeologists will be available and involved with projects to ensure that you are supported throughout the entire project.? ? DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:? ¡¤ Mentor, train, and supervise archaeological technicians in proper field techniques. This includes maintaining field notes, photographs and photo logs, site recordation, artifact identification and in-field analysis, GIS mapping, and appropriate safety planning depending on the location and environment.? ¡¤ Walk in challenging and uneven terrain in various environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, or snow.? ¡¤ Utilize GPS technology for project and site data mapping and navigation.? ¡¤ Document artifacts from pre-contact and historic periods. A general understanding of and experience in the Great Basin, including Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington, is required.? ? Education and Experience:? ¡¤ Master¡¯s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and completion of field school.? ¡¤ One year of work-related experience.? ¡¤ One year of supervision and training experience preferred.? ¡¤ Experience with pedestrian surveys under various field conditions.? ¡¤ Experience recording prehistoric and historic period archaeological sites of varying complexity.? ? Skills and Abilities:? ¡¤ Ability to identify and document pre-contact and historic period artifacts, features, and other cultural materials.? ¡¤ Ability to write detailed daily field notes, photograph artifacts, and map site locations as necessary.? ¡¤ Ability to work independently and operate GPS for navigation and mapping.? ¡¤ Must be able to operate a 4-wheel high clearance vehicle over isolated and rough roads during inclement weather.? ? PHYSICAL DEMANDS:? ¡¤ Position will require walking up to 10 hours daily over steep, uneven, and challenging terrain.? ¡¤ Applicants must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.? ¡¤ Candidates must be able to work in various conditions such as hot or cold temperatures and rainy, snowy, or windy conditions.? ¡¤ Proof of citizenship will be required as a condition of employment.? ?
