Thank you all for the wonderful offers of great homes for these kittens. It is encouraging that there are so many good homes out there but difficult of course to then make the decisions. Kai happens to be one of the hardest cats we've had into foster care, Leonard did a great job...not only fostering Kai but advising the adoptive home on how to introduce him and work with his issues.

Looking for fosters
Hi,
This is a task that Kristine and I have been meaning to get onto for some time. We need more foster homes. We'd like to have a nice healthy list across the US of people that could take in a cat or two if they had to. We understand that many breeders worry about infection, and of course they should be careful. But please consider being able to temporarily being able to erect a great dane crate in the garage away from your cats... even such a thing may be very useful to Rescue in the short term. In those cases, it may only be a couple days, long enough to get that kitty a health cert and onto a plane to a longer-term foster. For the pet owners, fostering is a feel-good experience. The poor kitties do not deserve the disruption to their lives, they do not deserve to be discarded, they are scared and unsettled. Being able to help them and see them find wonderful new homes where they will be adored really is a wonderful feeling. And of course, if it should happen that that kitty turns into your own pet then so be it. We do feel that the foster should be able to adopt the cat if it works out that way. In general, the cats we've had into Rescue have not arrived sick and have not stayed in Rescue long at all. Savannah Rescue is fortunate enough to have hundreds of folks on our email list that truly JUMP on any available Savannah. The work is often in wading through the great homes to find the most perfect one. And lastly, we don't get a lot of Savannahs into Rescue. Indeed, recently we've found that many of the breeders of the cats we are contacted about have been ready, able and willing to take back their own cats. It's been really pleasing to see this...even if it is the right thing to do, we all know that not all breeders are created equal. Even though we've been fortunate recently we DO need to have some foresight, and having a list of people that would consider helping out if need be, that would be great! Please help Kristine and I reduce our stressload by volunteering to consider being on our foster list. Having a list is a great start to being able to deal successfully with an unexpected influx of cats. There's no predicting when that may happen! Rini has been adopted

I am sorry that this has taken so long, Kristine and I have been very busy after being away at a show the weekend before... and so I have not updated the list as soon as I would have liked. Rini, the F3 SV, has found his new home. We are currently arranging his pickup from his foster home but feel very certain that this will work out. We are so pleased with the wonderful homes that offered for Rini! It was really difficult for us to make a decision, and so that delayed us quite some days as we went back and forth over the options. Almost makes us feel bad that we don't have MORE Savannahs in Rescue to offer you all...but of course the lack of SVs in Rescue is a GOOD thing :-) Thank you all for the kind offers, and please be patient as we never know when the next Savannah will come to us and need a great home right near you! More on Rini...
Hi,
We are still considering applications for Rini. We truly don't want to ship Rini, he's a gentle soul and we feel that shipping cargo would be really hard for him. We are giving preference to people that would either drive to Mississippi to fetch him OR that would fly to a nearby airport and take him back in cabin (in a carrier under the seat). There is a smaller airport close (Gulfport-Biloxi, I think the code is GPT) but also New Orleans is within reach and the foster home could easily bring him there. So you might want to consider contributing to New Orleans' economy by planning a weekend trip there and then having the bonus of taking Rini home with you :-) Rini has not been introduced to any dogs at his foster home but his former home had a chihuahua and aussie shepherd that he was reported to love. So we would assume with proper introductions that Rini would be fine with dogs. Attached is the adoption questionnaire that we use to screen applicants. To view pictures, change your membership settings!
Within hours of posting Rini as an available cat, we've had a LOT of replies. We cannot continue to keep individually sending pictures to interested parties. This is a volunteer position and we don't always have time for the task which increases our workload considerably unnecesssarily.
YahooGroups does not store pictures, so you will NOT be able to view pictures on the YahooGroups webpage for this group. We highly suggest that you visit your YahooGroups page and CHANGE your membership settings to receive "individual emails" rather than view messages on the internet. This will send emails to your email program's inbox, and with many other lists this means a number of emails a day... BUT this is a notification-only list, not a chat list, therefore you will not be receiving many emails this way. If you go to the webpage, , in the top left corner you will see your name, email address and then "Edit Membership". Click on that link and it will take you to the page to select "individual email" and then scroll down to click on the blue box "save changes". If you are joined receiving "individual emails" you will receive the pictures of available cats as they are posted. Thus with one email I can share pictures of Rini with you all, rather than having to send out many many individual emails and having to attach pictures. Neutered F3 male available in Mississippi

Rini is a brown spotted tabby F3B Savannah male, neutered and up to date on vaccinations, negative for FeLV and clear on fecal testing. He was surrendered with medication for asthma but has been weaned off this under veterinary supervision and has not coughed, sneezed or wheezed once. As he is now states away from where he was surrendered, we suspect he had allergies to that specific location or home. He is as easy as a dog to give medication to, he'll take it right out of your hand! Since coming off those meds he's been gaining weight, but the pictures we have are not showing this. He's been hard to photograph for his foster mom as he wants to headbutt and rub on people not sit there for the camera! He's very loving and sociable with people, he's best friends with another SV at her home also. We're proud to say that Rini's breeder has been very responsible with this case. She has completely covered our costs with transport and vetting for Rini, but she is in Canada and therefore we feel it best to search out an adoptive home here in the US rather than process CITES documentation to export him back. There are wonderful folk in this world!
Sometimes in Rescue you can feel that there are so many people that just don't care enough, when you deal with cats surrendered for bogus reasons, or such minor reasons that are entirely fixable... and you deal with breeders that think their responsibility ends when they ship the kitten/cat out.
THEN, you meet people like the couple I welcomed into my home today. We've had a sickly kitten in Rescue for some weeks/months now. She was surrendered with a severe ocular infection, and it has taken numerous vet and specialist visits with it still not completely cured and the specialist concerned that there is underlying FIP there. I'd been talking to this couple about this kitten and they met her and fell in love. I explained that we couldn't feel good about adopting her out until we could make sure she did not have a terminal disease. But they asked if they could take her home anyway. I've had to keep her in an enclosure in my garage as I cannot put her in with my own cats, and I felt bad about this as she is young (she's ~8 months old now) and so darn sweet and lovable. They said that they wanted to make sure she had a happy life, even if it was short because of FIP...and that if in another month we found out that, at least she'd have a month of being loved. Of course that made me cry. So Kristine and I decided to allow them to take the kitten home, and we told them we would waive any adoption fee because of this situation, even though Rescue (and my personal bank account) is out over $800 in vet bills for her. They brought a check with them, saying that it was a small donation to Rescue as they admired what we did. I didn't look at it while they were there, but opened it when they left. They gave Savannah Rescue $500! Such generous hearts...and at a time that Savannah Rescue really needed it. Kristine and I are very touched by these people's hearts. Please send strong thoughts and pray that this kitten truly does not have FIP, and can live a long and happy life with these wonderful people. In another month we will be re-evaluating and talking again with the infectious disease specialist and hoping that we can rule this out pretty certainly. Anyone in Northern California want to help out?
We have an unfortunate situation that we need help with. We need someone to volunteer to foster an ill F4 female Savannah kitten of approximately 8 months of age, brown spotted tabby. Savannah Rescue of course will be paying all veterinary costs.
The kitten has been ill since arrival from the breeder and the buyer has given up. The upper respiratory seems viral in origin but there is an additional corneal infection which appears to be bacterial and possibly a secondary infection. Until we have the kitten further evaluated by a veterinarian it seems unclear exactly what the situation is. The current antibiotic eyedrops seem inadequate, but I do know that better and stronger ones are available and hope that they would do the trick. Lysine supplementation seems to be improving the kitten's situation indicating that the condition is controllable. Unfortunately I am unable to take this kitten in as I will be leaving the country next week and cannot ask my housesitter to take on this case. The kitten cannot be shipped back to the breeder in this condition. We need a local (the kitten is located in Hayward, CA) home that would be willing to medicate and care for this kitten, with the ability to decide to adopt the kitten if it all works out. I hope to have pictures of the kitten soon and will be able to supply them to interested people that are willing to open their hearts and homes to this kitten in need. Let me know if you can help! F4 Savannah available through another rescue group in Northern California
Mondo is an F4 Savannah male with mainly Bengal outcrossing in his background. He is 18 months old and very sociable and friendly. He has no bad habits or behavioral issues, and currently lives in a large multicat household without a problem. He gets on great with other domestic cats, and the owner feels that he would also adapt well to cat-friendly dogs and older children. He has not been used to young children so there would be no guarantees there.
Mondo is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, microchipped, and combo tested negative for FIV/FeLv. His adoption fee is ~$100 I believe. "F2" Savannah Male available for single-cat household
Hi,
We have a lovely large dramatic neutered male Savannah coming into Rescue. Ichabod was found on the street so we do not have papers on him but it is completely obvious from pictures that this cat is most definitely a Savannah. Most likely F2 is our estimation. He's a handsome guy, and a very good sized boy. He came around very quickly to his current human and is very affectionate and interactive with him. He purrs, head butts, rubs and "trills" when visited by the guy that has him currently. The PROBLEM is that the home already has SIX other domestic cats and this SV male is too rough with them. Most likely this is a product of his insecurity after being out on the street &/or his former treatment at his original home...but he is aggressive with other cats and being large and strong he is completely intimidating to them. We feel that he needs a home without other cats. It is possible that in the future other cats could be introduced, or possibly a doggy companion would work. We do not currently know how he reacts to dogs. Ichabod was found on the street with a very tight collar/harness and something that appeared to be a crescent-shaped cataract, later determined to be a past penetrating eye injury. The vet felt that he has ~50% sight in that eye, it does not affect him in any way. Currently, Ichabod is in the midwest, but can be shipped to the right home. His adoption fee will be $200 plus any shipping costs incurred. Please, only those that do not currently have cats in their household apply to offer Ichabod a home. Merry Christmas and New SV Rescue F4 female

We have just been notified of an available Savannah in Rescue. Fitz is a spayed F4 female about 10 months old. She's loving and sociable but she has had dominance issues with the other two older female cats in her household recently. Her owner feels that this cannot be resolved and feels that Fitz would do better in a smaller pet household, ideally one with male cats as Fitz gets along great with the two male cats in the house. Fitz is located in Oregon, and the current owner would prefer not to ship so we are initially searching for a local home. If a perfect pet home is found that requires shipping, then it would be considered but preference will be given to a home that can drive to the Medford region to pick Fitz up. Fitz is up to date on vaccines, and was recently tested negative for FeLV/FIV. Potential Rescue SV available in Canada
Hi,
There is a gorgeous smoke F2 female that is likely to be available soon in Canada. She's a tall lean 9lb2oz cat, young adult (we haven't been able to get an exact age yet) and absolutely loves humans. She has had a health checkup and fecal testing which was clear, she has a small cosmetic, non-surgical, abdominal hernia about the size of a quarter. The vet assures it is not a worry and probably a result of its spay quite a while ago. The vet also detected a slight heart murmur (Grade 2) which he did not feel is of concern and may be due to any number of minor reasons including stress, and quite possibly may be transient. Dukati needs a household without other cats, she was given up due to problems with the other cats in the household. The home that now has her is going to try to introduce her to other cats as soon as her quarantine period is over, but we do not know at this point whether she might be able to be integrated into a household with other cats. We do not know if she is okay with dogs. She's easy to handle, loves to be petted and played with, and clipping claws is very easy. She is a tad hissy like a Serval can be, but it is more conversational than anything, like many early generation Savannahs. The home that has rescued her has accumulated some expenses in fetching her and vetting her, and is asking for an adoption fee of $500 to cover these costs. At this point we do not wish to deal with CITES permits to import her into the US, so Canadian homes only please! This cat is not in Savannah Rescue, but has been taken in by a breeder in Canada and they are committed to finding her the right home. Sabbie the F4 Savannah female
Sabbie is a 2.5 year old F4 Savannah female, she was surrendered due to a household member developing cat allergies. There are no behavioral issues at all, she is very affectionate and playful and gets along with other cats as well as tolerating dogs. She recently had a litter (kittens were adopted out before she was surrendered to Rescue) and she will be spayed shortly. She will come fully vaccinated and tested negative for FeLV and FIV. She is available for an adoption fee of $200 to cover vetting costs (including spay). Currently Sabbie is being fostered in the Milwaukee, WI area and we would give preference to a home that could pick her up in person.

Incoming Rescue Savannahs
Hi,
I don't have any pictures to share right now but I thought I'd let you all know that we do have two Savannahs coming into Rescue in different states. In Colorado, we have an F2 male that is pretty scared right now so his foster home hasn't gotten a good pic yet. He's a decent sized boy but will need a home that is quiet and patient. He loves being petted but he is very shy. We'd rather not ship him. In Milwaukee, we have an F4 female arriving into her foster home this weekend. She is very sweet and has no behavioral issues, she is being surrendered due to the husband's allergies I believe. If you are interested in either of these two cats, let me know and I can make sure you are one of the first to see pics when we have them.
