Justin,

It is my understanding that the UP maintains a handful of cars still with WP reporting marks as a way to protect the trademark. They probably do the same with other roads they have absorbed. Sad that they haven't done this with a Sacramento Northern car (mandatory SN content).

Norfolk Southern does the same thing. They have a dozen or so modern locomotives painted and lettered for roads they have absorbed. Imagine my surprise a few years ago when I was coming back from a living history event in North Carolina and saw "Wabash" 1070 on the point of a freight train south of Roanoke, Virginia. I sped on ahead and got several shots as it caught up with me. See attached. I've never seen the rest of the NS heritage paint schemes in person, but they have been shown in TRAINS.

It has been three years since I saw the last?WP car, a?white lettered insulated boxcar that was?coming back from Mexico near Eagle Pass Texas. I thought all?the cars were repainted or out of service. I tried to get a picture of a WP grain car I just?saw?in the UP yard in Lake Charles Louisiana today?but it was already out of the yard when I turned a truck?around on I10. It looked like the picture below but the lettering was spread out more.?
